I took my new car back to the garage on Saturday morning... as there is a problem with the brakes.....!!!!
The mechanic assigned to see what the problem was..... treated me like a complete idiot.... he was extremely patronising and very sarcastic....
The sarcasm i can deal with.... but why is it that men think that women know nothing about the cars that they drive???????
He even asked me if i knew how to open the bonnet????????
I was speechless.... although i'm considering a strongly worded letter to the Manager of the garage....
This ever happen to you......??????
Or is it just me ??????????????

I'm the sorta person who puts water in the oil....so I'd not take offence when asked "do you know how to open the bonnet"....just leave them to it...don't want to break my nails anyway lol
I don't think the letter would get you too far...doesn't sound like there is too much intelligence there.
I don't let people like that bother me. I feel somewhat sorry for them, but not for long.

me too babe, If i have problems with my car Dino will help me confused :?
If all else fails, walk around and tap the tires with your foot in front of him. That'll impress him wink
No sweetheart. Don't worry your pretty little head about it, 'course it ain't just you.
Sorry. Bad thing to say, I know.
Letter to the Som County Gazette might be good, c.c'd to the garage?
And no, it's not just Somerset, or Garages. My first hubby & me, when getting a mortgage about 15 years ago:
Hubby: "Talk to her (me). I know nothing about all this and she works in finance"
Total banker: "ok" then proceeds to not even make eye contact with me and directs total conversation at hubby.
He was only in his 20s too.
rolleyes
the why to deal with it is to mirror it back to them
you will get a change in atitiude very quickly

I have been asked this question. It is not patronising or sexist or anything like that, the question is designed to help the mechanic discover how clueless you are. The more clueless you are, the more it's gonna cost you.
If I'm not sure, I get the AA to check things out and tell me exactly what needs doing and write it all down in the most technical possible terms. Some mechanics will ask "how do you know all that?" and when you say the AA told you, many will laugh and tell you the AA don't know what they're talking about, then you laugh and go somewhere else. smile
Oh, and if the mechanic opens the bonnet, sucks in a lungful of air through pursed lips while shaking his head and says "Tut tut tut.... oh dear oh dear oh dear..." that is another identifying mark of the cowboy. His brother is probably a used car salesman. Again, it is your cue to exit.
Darling,
I like being treated like a girlie !!!! Dont want to know how to open the bonnet or the boot for that matter.............. dont want to know how to change a tyre or put water or oil in anything !!!!
Bit like LIbra really ........................it costs too much to get the nails !!! lol
Well, I am girly girl too, but one who can play in a boys world, as I have to do so every day at work. I am soused to dealing with sexist and patronising men that I almost feel sorry for anyone who ever treats me like that, as they end up being evry sorry, very quickly.
Me ...... a bitch........Absolutely and good at it!
Seriously tho, treat me like an intelligent human being and I respond like one, treat like an idiot and i'll make you look like one. Simple really!

Wow, can we send you round to the garage, I want to watch
This is all very good advice Equi, but want I want to know is....
Did you know how to open the bonnet? lol
I have to say that whenever our car went wrong, I used to send my ex down to the garage with it. If she came back with a story that sounded like he had been bullshitted, I would not use them. if they treated her with respect and what they said made sense, I would take the car to them myself to have the work done.
See! Woman are useful for something!! innocent
I may look small and cute and fluffy....... but.....
I do know how a car works.... including opening the bonnet thanks...
This wasn't a small back street garage.... this is a main dealership.... the car is only 5 mths old....!!!!!!
I must admit.... as i drove away i could think of 1000's of things to say back to him.....it goes back in very soon.... i shall have my responses ready..... lol

Wouldn't take too personally equi, even us so called expert men aren't able to service a car like we did in the good old days, they make them so complicated nowadays rolleyes
Thats a car not a woman...hehe wink
Next time Equi --- Just flick your hair back and with a tone that combines sarcasm and flirtation and at the same time keeping an air of superiority....
and answer:
"Why would I want to deal with lifes trivialities when there are people like you that can take care of the boring stuff for me"
Then look really busy pretending to talk to Sir someone or other on your mobile ...
lol
i would have looked at him and said......."bonnet? u mean it opens? gee fancy that can u show me!!"
i hate men like that
i had a female friend who was a mechanic and she said loads of men who bought their cars in used 2 ask for one of the men to do it, she was as qualified as the rest of them tho!!

I'm with blonde on this one?
If someone wants to be patronising and treat me like a dumb blonde I let them.
I once left my lights on while at work all day. It was pooring with rain and freezing.
I asked one of the guys at work to give help me out (I always have jump leads in the car)
He completely took over and started explaining to me in a patronising manner what I needed to do.
So I stood there with my best "blonde" expression and he told me to wait inside while he went out in the pooring rain to do it for me.

rolleyes I ask you. Who's the dumb one?

Yep, the service guy at my dealer was booking in my car last week and I asked him to check a specific item in the suspension, he proceeded to tell me that this particular part on my model has never been known to have a problem.........then called me back an hour later to tell me I was right and it was damaged.
Sometimes, just sometimes, it pays to be a smartarse in a male environment wink
claire - like your style! nice one ha ha

Ah; professional saleman. Your hubby foolishly identified himself as the weak link in the chain so the salesman concentrated his attentions on him.
Ok hands up all the men here who have NEVER in their entire driving career encountered a lady on a petrol forecourt and had to help her remove her own petrol cap ?
Be honest ........... lol

LOL, took me a while to work it out myself, when I started driving you didnt need to get out of the car as a nice little man used to do all that kind of stuf for you... and it meant you could sit nice and warm in the car, hand a fiver over and if he over-ran puting the petrol in then his loss
I even remember the satisfying "ding ding" noise that used to be made when you drove over the bell thingie on the forecourt.
Mind you nowadays the petrol is so blody expensive they aught to slow the pump speeds down as its so easy to rack up 10p extra, never mind a penny.#

But got to confess, at work where its mostly men, if I want a small job doing on car, I can act blonde very well !!! So I put up with the odd blonde joke, and get the car job done free!!!
