My thought too.
my reasoning being that if we are all having an input into SH by posting, then we all have a stake in seeing this suceed, and hopefully integrating more people into the community..
as it had been said of numerous SH is not a democracy and i fully understand that.... and like i have said in the posts before i have no interest in know who is being mentored, just who is doing the mentoring...
i have just had a pm for a mentor... it was nice of them to do so and they didn't have to....i can't see the problem with naming the mentors.. but maybe that is just me...i am sure a lot of us have had new people pm and ask questions with regards to the site and i am certainly not going to stop doing that...especial when mods go round in invisiable (and before you all jump on me, no i am not saying that mods shouldn't...)

Now I'm confused Sean. If a new person needs help then the Mods are almost always around or contactable by PM. And, if you don't think SOME of us (and it's mostly me BTW cos I'm usually doing other things at the same time ) shouldn't be invisible then why mention it?? You too are invisible right now... so??

Sean if you can give a good reason then I am sure we could solve this but I honestly don't understand this point you are trying to make dunno

As for the invisible thing, I like Jags don't know why you brought that up so if you can explain it to me I might show myself online more often :dunno:

you are right... i am... probably for the same reason as you... i am working on other things as well as this... it was never meant as a personal attack and i don't want this to...
the example i was going to use was at the time i wrote that last post there were no mods showing as being online....so who do new people go to then... the same people they do at the moment, regular posters they can see online.....
all i was asking at the beginning was why can the mentors not be named???.... obviously the answer to that is "because, we say so" ... end of story.......

Lots of Mods go invisible on site for good reason - they just don't want the hassle of people pestering them all the time. Mentoring is a completely different thing - between a newbie (if they really want it dunno

) and the mentor. What interest do any of us have in that for goodness sake??

Mal will make a decision about posting the names of the mentors. He's the one driving this trial. I didn't take your comments as any sort of personal attack Sean, I was genuinely confused about your two points 1) why the mentors should be responsible to other site members and 2) why Mods being invisible is a 'problem' - that's all.
The site isn't ever going to be able to offer a 24 hour on demand service. Mods and the new mentors have lives to live, work to do and family and social committments to enjoy so it doesn't really matter if any are online or visible - all are able to be contacted at some point. And people exchange telephone numbers already - I've had ad reports sent to my mobile when the content has been especially nasty. :shock: :shock:
As someone once said here 'don't stress the small stuff'.

My thoughts as well :? I have volunteered to be a mentor and if get chosen i wouldnt want my name or the other person to put on public view.
Nor would i want to be acountable to you Fabio or any other member mad

If i was asked anything i didnt know or wasnt sure of i would pm a mod and ask them!

Hmmm.. I would have thouht it helpful for noobs to find it easy to tell who was a Mentor (Dementor?).
Maybe some might never think to ask, but if it was common knowledge that Mentors existed, and who they are, then maybe it would save the Mods some work?
