Christmas should not be mentioned until at least 1st December :!:
I love Christmas too but it ruins it when shops etc start playing Christmas songs and decorating everything in October or earlier!
And when someone wishes you Happy Christmas on 12 November!

Christmas starts at 12:00am on the 25th of December, and ends at 23:59:59 on the 25th of December. Outside of that time, Christmas should only be referred to in context of talking about those times.

Shops filling the shelves with cards in September, I even saw a hotel that had a fully decorated tree in the lobby in June!
That's why it annoys people to hear about it early. I'll happily wish you seasons greetings at the appropriate time, which is actually months away since the Nazrene wasn't born in December anyway. Pagan celebrations are so much more fun & in keeping with this site, IMHO

Re Christmas finishing on Christmas day, Christmas has 12 days, they start on Dec 25th and end on Epiphany on Jan 6th when the deccies come down (I make that 13 days so I've got something wrong, maybe someone can explain.)

The 12 days start at midnight on 24/25th Decmeber and end at the same time on the night of 5th/6th December.
Decs should be taken down on 5th Jan and the Feast of Epiphany begins on 6th. This is where most people get confused about which date to take down the trimmings.
Epiphany lasts from Jan 6th until Lent and so forth but lets not get into it deeply. The fact of it is, today is faaaarrrr to early to be wishing someone a Happy Christmas

Ah, but this is only an excuse for you. A sprog on its 1st year will neither know what it's all about nor care. ANd why will a week or two weeks with a tree mean more to you or him than a month? Hasn't being involved in this scene taught you that quality counts over quality every time? (Those of you about to jump in & shout about having both, don't bother ; it did cross my mind, but you can get bored of anything)
All you're doing is indoctrinating the poor wee sod into the commercialisation and over-exploitation of the event. In future years when he knows what's going on you'll truly hate it, too. Wait until he starts demanding his presents in the middle of October & won't stop goingon about it because the shops and the supermarkets and the saddos with their trees up in August keep reminding him about it. And telling him he'll get whatever he wants just by asking.
as for those of you who insist on bringing this forced jollity into the workplace early, it's no way to win people over to your pointof view. Rather it will make them hate it even more because it's being forced on them.
