That's exactly it - well, it is for me. Its that sense of 'power' ...ok, not 'power' as such, more like 'physical and inner strength'. Now i'm not saying that military personnel are not affected by some of the things they see, but its the mental calmness & strength that gets drilled in as part of the training that I find really magnetic.....that and *most* are very physically fit, run round with guns and look very nice in uniform

Yes I know. That's what I was trying to say. An ordinary fireman is heroic enough but a military fireman who might be attempting to control a fire in an aircraft filled with fuel and maybe bombs and things that might go off has to be somebody special.
