Twice this week I have had the mis-fortune, or the sheer thick-headedness to mis-read emails from 2 different frinds on two different occasions, and both times have got totally the wrong end of the stick altogether.
This led on to me getting all upset and assuming that said friends were mad with me and blah...blah...blah
cue total over -reaction from me, thus losing me sleep, and almost losing me friends.
Is it jut me that is such a numpty or do other people do this?? Is it a lack of visual clues, do you think that leads to this? Or do you think its just oversensitivity or insanity on my part......
maybe all emails and text should contain emoticons in lieu of body language, as to convey the real meaning behind the message.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who can/has made an arse of herself like this?? redface surprisedops:
I've certainly had occasions where I've had to clarify emails that could be read more than one way biggrin Emoticons certainly help but it's also how well the person is able to express themselves in writing, and reading what you've written before you hit send to make sure it's what you want to say.
There again, you could be a numpty ;-)
I do it all the time especially from dek when he is away, i get an email thats possibly 30-40 lines long and no sentences, paragraphs, no emotions and virtually no humour.
Its hard to distinguish when he is being funny or being crude about things and its bloody hard to read. Many times i have started arguements because i have took things hes said in email or text the wrong way rolleyes

i've done it too, not just emails but texts can be ambiguous too.
quite a few times with my ex we would end up arguing cos he had read a text wrong or i had.

Only twice !!!!!!!!!
Amature rolleyes
lol
I do it all the time not just mail but anything text based
funny enough we were just talking about this the other day at work, quite alot of our comunication is done through email and the emails can sometimes come accross as being sarcastic when they are joking, also they can come accross as being abrupt when just being serious.
Also some emails can make perfect sence to the person typing and total gobbledy to the person reading it ................in my experience anyway lol
I lost a large client at work because a member of staff at their end didn't 'get' my sense of humour in an e-mail. evil Serves him right really, he shouldn't have been reading someone else's e-mails!
Tin
I once mis-read an email from MarkZ
For a split second, I thought it was funny! rolleyes
I much prefer people to spell things out in words of one syllable or less, so I know exactly how they feel and where I stand, and theres no room for me to make any error lol
That goes for texts, pms, emails etc, anywhere, where I cant see the writers face and body language, or hear their tone of voice.

... a true friend will not be lost from you reading something wrong...

I think it depends on the readers mood as to how they perceive a text or email. If I'm in an 'arsy' bad mood I can quite often misinterpret a text because that's how I'm feeling.
Texts and emails are the biggest form of arguments, people quite often say a little more than they would face to face, bit bravado I think.
I can get paranoid from time to time but I have reasons for why I'm like that, I just try to count to ten and overcome it.
