Well, after what seemed liked a bright idea, I visted the gym yesterday after a three month layoff and moronically thought I could get back into the swing of things by trying to do almost the same exercises as before.
I'm now stiff as a board (O'err) and aching from head to toe with the knowledge that I'll probably feel worse tomorrow
Anyone else had any clever ideas that haven't quite panned out lately?
Harry
some people will know i gave up smoking 3 weeks ago,
well im still no smoking, but its hard to keep motivated when your gaining weight, not sleeping, really emotional and have a gross cough that you never had while smoking.
still im sure the health benefits will show soon just like you going back to the gym.
xxx lou xxx
Do some stretches before and after next time..... and do some stretches now to help reduce the agony....
lol,
no i refuse to do any exercise that involves me stretching with no partner present lol

I don't know if you already know this, but just incase you don't, the coughing you get when you give up smoking is caused by the cillia (very fine hairs which line your lungs) growing back. They are distroyed when you smoke but will grow back quite quickly. They act in a similiar way as the hairs in your nose, trapping tiny particles. You have made some serious headway now into reversing some of the damage done, Well done!

Ewww yeh, reminds me of a couple of years ago when we were camping - it seemed like a really good idea to take my eldest on Go Ape  A kind of assault course ........ but about 20ft in the air
Although I was crap rolleyes I did manage to get round the course :smug: In fact I got round the course with a darn site more grace than I got off me airbed the next morning :undecided: It was agony, took me ages to get up, missed me bacon sarnies and everything :undecided:
ye i feel so bad after playing 2 games of rugby in one weekend , my body gets no time at all to recover , and on a monday i really have to motivate myself to just move towards the edge of the bed , all good fun in the end though!
there is a technique used by most of the top sports team in the world called cryotherapy. it works on the age old pricipal of if you put a muscle putting ice on it. in its most basic form after intensive exercise use cold water bath or shower (bath is better and ice cold) for sort periods 30second interspersed with hot shower. this forces the blood vessals to tighten and relese forcing the blood which hold the h+ ions (these cause your stiffness) to disperse round the body and to be broken down.
and basically yo loss 10% performance for each week you stop training (so harsh)
As some of you already know 'cos I posted about it a year or more ago, I hung a couple of pairs of my knicks on my wing mirrors in a layby near Maidstone one night. Next morning when I went to retrieve them they'd been (k)nicked! redface surprisedops:
Not quite the result I'd been expecting! :rascal: :rascal:

wave secret is not to give up smoking ...psychologically almost impossible...but to stop smoking for the moment.....I stopped smoking 22 years ago for lent...used to do it each year but count down 40, 39, 38......etc 3,2,1 bingo 20 fags in an hour.....but the last time I counted up 1,2,3.......38,39, 40.....lets try for 41.....psychologically much easier because you can start when ever you want, you are in control...so I am on something like 8000 and something...but still have not given up smoking. So what to do.....keep giving yourself little deadlines...get there then go one further and then set another dadline...and a little reward as each mile stone is reached....
....the weight, well, easy eat less, exercise more, if you can't eat less (and as a 60 a day man when I stopped I do know how you look for a surrogate replacement) then eat different, fruit, vegetables, nuts or seeds.....try roasting 100gm pumpkin seed, 100 gm sunflower kernals, 50 gm pine nuts...dry roasted in a pan ...keep them moving until pine and sunflower take on a golden brown....drop in a pat of butter and mix in, sprinkle some lo-salt and eat as many as you like...really good...
.....the sleeping, well, it will take longer and longer to get to sleep and you will wake earlier and earlier...because the nicotine deprivation is screaming at you to have a fix....what to do...well this does pass after a month or so....but in the interim make sure you have someone by the side of you so that you take the opportunity of increasing your bed exercises...theres always a benefit somewhere...this way you enjoy the waking hours and lose weight at the same time.....of course you will run out of bed mates.....they will get knackered.....alternatively, keep a notepad by the bed and when you wake catch up on all those letters that you have been promising....or write erotic stories....or read erotic stories...can send you a nine chapeter MMF onw if you like...
....the cough, well thats already been dealt with...so you are now on the home run, fantastic achievement...keep it up, don't flag......if you are tempted (smoking of course) PM me or post me and I will try and counsell you out of it......and of course Cornwall isn't really that far...only about five hours....a mere stepping stone...good luck and well done
