Well, seems to be a spate of them at the moment, so thought I'd join in......
Trying (without much success) to upload a page created using Microsoft Frontpage onto the web.
Get to the bit where it says insert URL, and duly do that - now according to the insturctions, it should then ask for the username and password of the hosting ISP. However, this doesn't happen and the file is then saved as an HTML extension in my documents
Anyone got any ideas what I may or may not be doing wrong ????

The URL should be an FTP site. If so it has to start with ftp and not http
eg:

NOT

and replace with the domain you want to upload to!!
hope this is some use :-)
There's nothing wrong with saving the file "locally" on your hard drive, as you will always be grateful for having a backup. Top tip - rather than saving to "My Documents", create a new folder in "My Webs" or "My Websites" that will be specifically for this web site.
Try using a bespoke FTP program like:
CuteFTP
WS:FTP
EliteFTP
(the list goes on)
With these, you can establish the link to your web host, at your own pace, and many web hosts have tutorials for these programs to show you exactly how to set them up in order to do exactly that.
Once you have your connection, uploading the file is as easy as dragging it across the screen.
Hope that this helps. Good luck.

CAREFUL!
This doesn't always work. I run a site (I'd upset someone if I posted the link to it here) that is hosted by Businessserve and the upload URL is NOT my domain name. They then use the username / password to redirect the connection to the part of their server that hosts my site.
Best to check the documentation that comes with your welcome letter / e-mail from the web hosts as to what the uplink details are.
Until you have your site all set up, it's better to work with a locally saved version, it stops you making mistakes in public and it's faster.
