Yes you should make a polite request before adding someone to your contacts list.
Try a PM or an e-mail first. Just adding someone without asking their permission is like taking a seat at someone's table in a pub or restaurant without introducing yourself. It is considered rude and is likely to cause offence.

For my part, it is simply that I prefer to chat on the forum, and only use MSN occasionaly, and I started getting problems with people messaging me every time I was on line, and having stacks of hopeful messages sent when I was off line. I should probably take it off.

I have had the odd person (literally. LOL) add me to thier list, which I dont mind in theory as long as they talk nice and can hold a conversation.

I know what you mean Andy. I added one forum user to my contact list, unsolicited, but she didn't block me. I'm glad because she's such an easy person to talk to and our conversations are so wide ranging. Without this site I'd never have met someone who has become a fantastic mate. I'm sure she knows who she is!
