Munch Attendees

Can I again assure you all that there will be no one representing SHM at this event. I have put that in the thread and have spoken to Annie about it.
As for the messages and posts about breaking munch rules (and it being one rule for members and another for Mods/Admin - sent by pm) can I also say that even though Annie may be the editor of the magazine, she is also a member of this site.
If I have offended anyone, then I do apologise, however, I would also say, that unless I had been 100% satisfied that I was not putting people in any danger by allowing Annie to come to the munch, then there is no way I would have allowed her to come. That doesnt seem to have been taken into account, and do I take this thread and other comments as a personal dig, yes of course I do.

I'd just like to say on my own behalf, that ve been making my comments about the *general idea* of reporters/SHM staff etc attending any munch... and have been reading most of the other comments with that in mind.

I have to disagree, and take issue.
She has a "membership account" - a "log in"
As do the others that run/own the website.
They are not, in my view - members the way you or I are. Nor are they members in the way that other Munch attendees are.
I don't mean that in a derogatory manner. I just make the distinction.

I most definitely took that into account.
As I have said before, I think you're a great person and I wholeheartedly believe that you would never knowlingly do anything to upset anyone on this site, but surely you can appreciate that different members will have different levels are what they are comfortable with kiss

I'm genuinely sorry that your thread got dragged into it, but I do think the issue of SHM employees attending munches is a serious topic worthy of discussion and members' opinions.

Unless Annie was a member of this site before she was employed as the editor I totally disagree with this statement.
She (and the other guest) are not members interested in the lifestyle, they are here because they are paid to be here - there's a huge difference.

NWC - i was one of the first to express doubts with regards to the SHMeditor, but i also stated that i did feel you would have made the relevant enquiries.
This is not about having a dig at you, we all know that if you had any doubts whatsoever, she would have been told "no" from you straight away and i do believe that your intention was honourable for all the munchers.
In my opinion, this is about what each person feels comfortable with, regardless of what others think or do, everyone is different.
You personally, as newbies, gave us our first break in to munches and we respect you for that, hence we cannot argue the point of giving people a chance.
All we can say is; there is a lot of people on here that regard you highly and would not intentionally hurt you, people just have differences. kiss

I never really picked up on this until late yesterday by which time NWC had "dealt" with it.
The thoughts which crossed my mind at the time were "oh .... and when would we have been able to discuss this?".
The longer the site runs the longer I am amazed that the Admin don't learn from the lessons of previous uproar! This is a community, we dicuss things, we vote, we laugh, we shag .... all together.
Whilst I appreciate SH is now a commercial enterprise .... we should still be entitled to put our opinions, all together, forward prior to decisions being made.
I have no interest in the SH magazine. I don't intend to buy it, don't intend to submit anything to it and trust the word of Admin when they say my privacy will be observed. Munches aimed at the whole site use are not the place to do market research.
If you want a place to do that then fine, I have no objections to you organising a munch/social for that reason. That way people who are interested in representing the lifestyle can be there.
Admin, please if you wnat to make money out of us then do it .... but please give people the opportunity to step forward or backwards.
Two important words in this lifestyle!
INFORMED CONSENT.
Give people the chance to give their informed consentand don't just assume they do ... be that with submitting interviews, articles, givien statements, filling in surveys, having vanilla representatives from your side attend munches aimed at the lifestyle!

after last night, I am not giving my opinion here (I hope you understand)- it would however, be nice to here from other mods, admin & other munch organisors. I have put a thread up if anyone is interested in meeting Annie at a social. Although thats gone down like a lead balloon! Everyone has choices here.

Sorry ......... but I am obviously not part of the clique ..... so have no idea what went on last night...... but we have our names down for the Wigan munch ...... are journalists going to that?
Can someone tell me .......... and is every attendee going to get a PM telling them ........ so that they can decide if they still want to go?
The old AUP used to say munches were only for SH members???

As far as I'm aware, the list was announced in February as full.
We were reminded in March to confirm, and/or "spare" places would be given to those on the reserve list.
From my own perspective, I'd assume our places would by now have been given to someone else.
Would we expect to be put back on the list ?
Not on your nelly.
Will we/Should we ask to be put on the existing reserve list dunno

We'll discuss it privately.

I fully appreciate what you're saying honey ... but haven't we always ran that risk? It's part of the reason I've avoided munches/socials who are organised by people I don't know/haven't been around very long.
Organisers who have been around a while, organised a fair few munches/socials etc tend to get the measure of security right. And whilst they can't guarantee the occupation of everyone, there is that feeling of safeness.
I much prefer munches how they used to be ... join the site and get known then after so long be allowed to come to a munch. It does appear that you can be on the site for 5 minutes, rack up thousands of posts quickly and attend a munch in a relatively short period of time, but that's a tangent!

I don't understand why you feel you can't give your opinion.
The 'Annie' social has gone down like a lead balloon because it's all speculative at the moment - you haven't thought about date or location and said thet she's not answered your PM about it yet. People can't/won't say yes or no with so little information.

To be absolutely clear - I do not view 4T and/or their representatives and agents as members of the site, scene, or lifestyle. In particular, I would and do view the SHM editor and staff as journalists. Please don't misunderstand that, or see it as a dig. It isn't. They have their part to play and get from SH what they do. I have mine, and get from SH what I do.

But obviously that's just my opinion.
And I'd be interested to hear other people views. Including yours; as I'm . . . .
