maybe a faulty power supply , before thinking of board faults ? I was stumped with a similar problem but a new power supply solved the prob. There was a risk that I may have fried other stuff but it seems some smart boards detect the current in and so cut out if the power in is a bit iffy !
Well, I wondered if it had something to do with the powercut from the thunderstorm lol!
But it is making strange sounds (like when a floppy disk doesn't read) so it's trying to work , and the power is coming on, in fact, that's the only button that works.
I was in the middle of my first ever virus check when it froze (not good considering I got the lap top 2 years ago!) so maybe that has something to do with it??? I was also trying to put pictures on from my camera dock but that wasn't working properly so I kept pulling out the USB in a rage- maybe that's what's done it?
It's driving me nuts.......
GRRRRRRR!
xx
Sounds, excuse the pun, very much like the hard drive is kaput.
Sometimes you can revive the drive for a short period of time if you cool it.
Try this, wrap the whole laptop in a plastic bag (to avoid condensation) and drop it in your fridge for a few hours.
Take it out and try to boot it strait away, if it starts up and crashes a short time after, it's more likely the hard drive as mentioned.
Is anything appearing on the screen at all ? and/or are you getting any beeps when it fires up.
It could be that your memory is at fault ( well the laptops )
It's difficult to diagnose without knowing exactly what happens at bootup. Try firing it up again and make a note of exactly what happens.
What brand of laptop is it and did you get any support with it when you bought it ( yeah I know it's a long shot ,but I gotta ask )
Rob
The fact it doesn't start up will have nothing to do with the broadband connection. Problems once the laptop is up and running and while connected, can be due to viruses, poor connection and so on.
It is more likely to be the heat that is causing the problems to the hardware (the laptops)
May sound a little odd but try starting it without the battery in.
