RUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNN!
The computer mice have started playing the drums!
Ooooooooo mine's been making more noise lately too!
Lumpy electric supply? dunno innocent
Go behind the computer with the hoover nozzle and suck up all the dust that's collected on the back of the case biggrin
Word of warning there; don't be touching any components in the case. They don't like static much confused
Get a can of compressed air instead much better biggrin
Seems like you need a professional assistance wink

 Who you been talking to then? lol
Ticking: Quite possible that there is a wire catching the processor fan, graphics card fan or case fan. Pop the side off (when you find your screwdriver rolleyes ) and see where the noise is coming from
Cleaning out: With the power off, get a soft paintbrush or a spare makeup brush and brush the dust off the motherboard and components. Don't hoover the actual boards but brush the dust into the nozzle.
If you get really stuck, bring it to Bristol munch and i'll do it for you kiss
It is possible that this might be the early stages of a failure of your hard disk - so it's a good idea to ensure you are up-to-date with your back-ups.
i get my back up all the time at work does that count biggrin

Good point.
Varca, look to see if the hard disk light is flashing on in time with the ticking. If it is, that'll be the guilty component. Get it backed up quick - i.e. copy all your treasured pictures/music/videos/porn onto DVD or CD - just in case.
good advice i can see so far, just look at the fan first see if theres a build up of dust on it to throw out the rotation.
then as said check hard drive, this sort of thing is almost impossible to diagnose unless pc is infront of you as your ticking is another mans hum.
Before taking the side off, back-up. Never play with the computer without an up to date back-up.
If you have your PC set up for power saving and it is the hard disc going; the noise will be there when you are using the PC; there when the screen goes blank; then later it will stop when the hard disc stops spinning, and return when you hit a key to wake it.
You can check out the wires to see if they are contacting the fans.
BUT as said PCs do not like static. So stand on natural fibers and do not wear nylon.Best not to wear anything. Then touch the casing before touching any other parts.
Please please please please please ONLY use air. Don't use a paintbrush confused Processors and motherboards cost a fortune to replace would hate for this to happen to you.
Why not just get it professionally serviced? Will cost around £40. The alternatives..... :scared:
Just had some techie advice from a certain lovely someone and I am about to go off and find a screwdriver so I'll hoover inside too biggrin

Go on Varca, give it a good suck and see what happens lol

i would back up your hard drive
it may be about to die

Been using brushes to clean for years, never had a problem. Also used to use them when working at Lucas Aerospace servicing kit where the anti static compliance procedures are very stringent.
As long as you've grounded yourself sufficiently the risk of ESD damage is minimal and todays semi's are even more stable than the old stuff. (always use a natural hair brush though, not a cheap n nasty nylon thing)
I won't miss it, i can have a look at it and leave Manolishi instructions on how to fix it while we go munchin :giggle:

... I followed all advice, apart from the nekkid one :giggle: .... kiss

I would like to point out that the suggestion was made on sound scientific principle. Static is generated by the rubbing together of two materials. One that is..... So removing all nylon etc will reduce the generation of static.
The fact that science can give me a thrill is just serendipity. :lol2:
