I agree with the Sarge:
Make a list & maybe practise in a mirror about presenting yourself, better still get a friend to sit with you & ask you questions about the job, prospects etc.
The better prepared you are the more confident you will feel & hence look

Hiya Onlyme....
I've been to a few interviews myself these past few weeks and can only echo the above comments.
One thing i'd definately add is to find out as much information about the place where you want to work as possible.
If they have a website.... find out as much as you can.... All employers value staff that make an effort to know their company etc....
Good luck

wen you are going to speak and you stutter
try this
before you actualy say anyhting take one instant deep breath then speak
i think you will find that may work
any time u feel a stutter comming on just do it
one instant quick deep breath

Whenever I go for an Interview I go out for a nice walk beforehand, collect all my thoughts, put into my head what I want to say, but I don't overanalyse.
I take a number of deep breaths and then just go with it.
I find it works for me, but everyone is different.

From an employers perspective.................
Explain to the interviewer, that you stutter when nervous and ask them to "bear with you"Any reasonable interviewer will understand. Interviewing is not an easy process and it could be that the other person is just as nervous as you are.
If your are asked a question and your not sure how to answer say, "just give me a second to think about that" and pause till you compose yourself.
This shows you are giving the matter serious thought and arnt hasty.
Before you go to the interview make sure you understand the job description fully and get someone else to help you stage a mock interview, this will help your nerves on the day.
Good luck
I have been to a few interviews myself recently and the best advice is preparation!
(Fail to prepare = prepare to fail)
Remember, you have been in your current job 4 years which is a massive 'tick in the box' for potential employers.
I agree with everyone's comments so far and personally like to make sure I have spent time reading a potential employer's website, or even mystery shop them if appropriate. From a website, consider any recent news they are reporting and look for company history and their Values/Mission Statement. I then like to look at the job description and write down examples of how I have carried out/achieved something in my past. Lastly, using what information regarding comany values or mission statement I note down the qualities that I bring to the business that fit in with how they say they operate.
This is not about reciting preprepared statements whilst in the interview, the objective is to gain the confidence by agreeing with yourself rationally that you can a)do the job and b)fit in with the business.
If you are struggling with pinpointing your own qualities, ask people that know you to tell you their opinion.
P.S. The best advice i got for a job interview was the use of BS, BS and more BS (and it worked!)
onlyme, first of all best of luck! fingers crossed.
now repeat after me, all the way to the interview, and while you're sat waiting to go in . . . .
"i am a confident, articulate woman. i am the best woman for the job!"
"i am a confident, articulate woman. i am the best woman for the job!"
"i am a confident, articulate woman. i am the best woman for the job!"
you need to believe it's true, and convince yourself of it. it works for me ( tho obviously the woman bit doesn't work in my case! ) ;-)

Unless the appt sought is very high profile, most employers will make up thier mind about you in the first 20 seconds. It is there fore imperative that you look confident - i.e. stand tall; look the interviewer in the eye; firm handshake.
The next stage is body language in the interview ..... Do I need to go into those bits?
With regards to a stutter ...... Prepare yourself as well as you can in advance; by and large the interviewer wants to hear about you. It isn't a power game where the other party is trying to intimnidate you...... So, take your time with your answer; speak slowly and clearly and, like scuba diving, remember to keep breathing!
For future reference, there are some very good books on interview techniques and how to avoid and answer what are called "noose questions".
If you dont mind my asking, what type of job are you going for?
Yeah... Good Luck
