now then, there have been threads for the "what's your favourite to fuck to?" and all that... but this is simply a requestion for information and pointers.
I'm in the mood for some new music...
I like something a little experimental.. electronics and ambient are good.
I've always been a bit of a metal/rock head, and very much enjoyed punk, goth and hippy stuff.
Music with a darker feel... moody, but not depressing.
"soundscapes"...
what have people heard that is "new" without being some upstart pop/dance/manufactured outfit?
all suggestions appreciated.
not just for me of course, but share your recent discoveries with everyone. Share the joy!

Have you checked out G N' R's Chinese Democracy?
Its the rock, but with a more "industrial" sound and some very impressive guitar sounds....
From what I gather it's a "Marmite" album. You either love it or hate it.
I for one Love it!!
I do like Marmite... however, I never really took to Chinese democracy... Apetite for Destruction was the benchmark.
my tip, for a change of pace to anyone who doesn't know them would be:

lp
Love Boards Of Canada
If you're looking for something uber-trippy in a dance kind of way try Shpongle or Infected Mushroom....triffic!
On the same lines as Boards...I'd recommend listening to Kubb, Postal Service, Breaking Benjamins, Dashboard Confessional, Stabbing Westward, Three Days Grace, Screaming Trees, Flaming Lips, Matthew Barber or Dave Matthews Band.
Enjoy biggrin
I don't really do 'new music', however i do have a rather huge collection of 'old music' with a fair proportion of that being electronic/ambient/chillout/itookwaytoomuchacidinmyyouth sort of music, so.....
see if you can get hold of a copy of Schlangenfarm by 3 phase, it's proper trippy with a little orb-ishness to it
I'm hopeing you've already got a copy of All blue review by The Golden Claw (aka Crabby from Pop Will Eat Itself) if you've not got it....you muppet!
you might also like to try
Patashnik by Biosphere- worth the admission price for the funkyness of 'Novelty Waves' on it's own
Chill out 'n' confused by Starfish Pool- real old school chill out and it even has bagpipes!
Neuro # Project by The electric mothers of invention seems to ring a bell as a good listen, i'll pop it on later and give you an update
Natural Born Techno by the Nova Zembla label is another one i remeber listening to quite a lot, i'll pop that on once Neuro has finished and report back!
If you want to go for a geeeetaaaaar sort of moment then get yourself some Family CAt (note the capital letter spelling wink ) possibly one of the most underated indie bands of the 90's- not a single bad track and on heavy rotation in the Meatymobile (Albert Hoffmans Bike off the Tell em we're surfin album is probably the best first album first track i've heard in years- except maybe for Carter USM's Surfin USM off 30 somthing)
If you're still in a geeeeeetaaaaar mood then it's time to get out anything Wedding Present/Wonderstuff/Sisters of Mercy/Mission/The Cult and definitley some Banshees
That lot should keep you bloody quiet for a bit at least :megreen:
Master of Sex
It depends what you class as new and what your tastes stretch to.
I can recommend bands as diverse as Pelican (instrumental 'post-rock'), Opeth (progressive death metal), Orange Goblin (NWOBHM influenced metal), Masters Of Reality (blues infused 60/70's style rock) and loads of others. All of the bands mentioned above have a recording history of at least 4 albums.
If I was allowed just one name, it would be Devin Townsend. His music runs the spetrum from blasting, face-ripping metal (with Strapping Young Lad) to prog metal and ambient solo stuff.
A lady on here introduced me to "acid croft music" not sure if it's on you tube haven't looked but try Shooglenifty and Martyn Bennet for starters and see where it takes you. :P
Orgasminator
i'd recommend emilie autumn(dark n moody gothicy type)
had it mentioned to me by my as i call her pooky wierdo daughter ..skillet is a good alt rock band too
...things that you might like to bring to the attention of other whom may not have had the pleasure then... how does that sound?

Is there anything new or is it just reworking of stuff that`s been done before....?

If you are interested in something that sounds like nothing that's gone before, check out stuff like Earth, Khanate, Aethenor, Teeth Of Lions Rule The Devine or Sunn O))).

Some top stuff there Sassy. Never had you down as an ambient post-rock kinda girl for some reason? confused In a similar vein, Explosions In The Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are oldies but goodies, and my current faves Wooden Shjips ((( thats shjips with a J, not the similar sounding crap UK band! ))) are damn fine noise-merchants in a Mogwai / Spacemen 3 stylee. smile

You haven't seen me in a Slipknot mosh pit or going mental to psychobilly band Demented Are Go then have you? :giggle:
British Sea Power - great band and their recent soundtrack for the remastered 1934 film Man of Aran is just awesome.
Seriously, go and check them out.
