Would it be useful for SH to have a list of known scam sites/sites that ask a fee for things that would be free here, so we know who to avoid?
I wasted my time while signing up for a site (not one I found through SH, this was before I came here) that claimed to be free to advertise... and it was, but there was a fee to see any replies!
It probably is populated... with fake ads and timewasters.
The majority of FREE sites and not FREE. They are FREE to create a profile. They are FREE to browse members. But when you want to actually send an email or contact anyone, you are asked to UPGRADE to Gold/Silver/Platinum/Pyrites memberships where for ONLY £18,000 a year, you can send UNLIMITED messages to members.
That's why SH is good. For all its flaws, it is genuinely free.
I think it's really hard, no pun intended, when you are new to things. I am and I am just so wary of everything just being a rip off or everyone being fake.
I think it must take a long time to build up trust in systems and people.
But did you report the ad?
YES - BUT DID ANYONE REPORT THE FUCKING AD TO THE MODS ???????
Hi all, firstly apologies to the Mods for putting the full URL up on the original post... school boy error!
I've spent a few hours now trawling back through the ads and I can't find the original ad I responded to. The advertiser was based in Deal in Kent and is called Jacqueline... I hope that helps.
Anyway, i'm learning fast on here!
Happiness and health to you all.

I suppose we should take it as compliment that we get so many people targetting us with spam nowadays. I believe that if you check out the web traffic charts this site is by far the biggest of it's kind and on top of that IT'S FREE.
If you were starting up your own two bit website which site would you decide to spam to get a bit of traffic? Yep, unfortunately this one.
It takes a joint effort to keep this site free of these people. It's not just down to the moderators it's down to all of us. If you come across any of this crap, be it in the ads section, the forum or the chatroom, then please tell a moderator or a chatroom operator and we'll get rid of it.
Steve
Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but there are quite a few of these ads about at the moment. They appear to use the hidden email respond form, so difficult to trace back.
