Interesting statement from BT.. All existing 512 and 1 meg Broadband users will be upgraded to 2 meg by end of June… no extra charge
ALL original 1 meg customers, recently upgraded to 2 meg will be further increased to 8 meg by end August no charge
8 meg....... 8 meg......

i can't wait.
Ian
Or as my nice letter said, you can have a free upgrade to 2 meg (great) but your line is not of sufficent quality (what) so we will offer you 1meg for the same price mad
So so nice of them to tell me that the line they supply is too useless to have the full 2 meg, but I can have 1 meg instead, if I sign up for another year of course. Excellent marketing guys smile
it would just be nice to have broadband, let alone worring about 8meg
mad We were supposed to have been upgraded today but they haven't done it.... Guess who will be abusing BT tomorrow....

"Dear Lord Lacon,
I wrote to you recently about upgrading our broadband lines to 2Mb.
I am very sorry to tell you that your line cannot support a 2Mb broadband service and so we're unable to provide this faster speed to you."
Umm HELLO?! BT collects over £8000 PER MINUTE and I don't live in the middle of some god forsaken valley in the middle of nowhere that cannot pick up bbc1, so why the hell can they provide me with 2 MBs in Hertfordshire?!
Bollocks to the "..newly upgraded digital exchange and aluminium internal switch BT boxes" lol
grrrrr

now its clear why ntl. have made my broadband go from 750k to 2Mb..and my upload speed 128k go up to 200k...they say
this is part of ongoing commitment to provide the best choice and value broadband service in the uk............... confused

well telewest have just upgraded us poor 256k users to 512k for no charge... i almost feel like i can be in your presence now...... smile :) :)
do you feel a broadband war coming on... well the way i see it, there is only going to be one winner... us!!! (for a change)
We are with freeserve, who (we think) use BTs infrastructure to give us Broadband. I'm wondering if that means that they will also be able to double our connection speed in the future. After all they are using the same telephone lines. Fingers crossed!!!!

They will also now be enforcing the "traffic limits" upload+download cap of 1gig (or was it 2) a day... chears NTL at 750 I couldnt manage to reach that limit but now you have speeded it up you are going to stop me using the service full time and potentially terminate my account for usage abuse over the traffic limit.
Upload speeds are i believe limitied by the way the cable system works as it was never really intended to be a two way system... rather a limited upload system to send TV channel selection, device connection data, and voice, with a full download the otherway to send the tv broadcasts and on demand films.
They upgraded me. Now all they need to do is work out why my connection goes down for 8-15 hours a day, unless I do a line test which kicks the connection back in, which in order to do I have to report the line fixed, which ends up cancelling engineers who can't work out what the problem is anyway, and BT can't seem to work beyond their automated service and bypass the fact I have to report the line fixed so I can use the service I'm paying for and make a note to ignore the fact I'm cancelling via the automated service and send the damn engineers (who don't know how to fix the problem) out anyway, and now they have started grasping at straws asking if we have overhead electricty lines, and I now have the choice between sitting on my hands, and not doing the line test, go without a connection so I can have an engineer who is going to replace the line in my house, even though the line has been tested beyond my house with the same results and
OH MY FUCKING GOD WHY ARE BT SO RETARDED?!!!
*breaths*

After having dial up for two years ....its just nice to have 512k broadband !
I'd go back to dial up tomorrow if it meant I could log in whenever I liked, but that's fucked too evil
Venusxxx
The thing is guys...it dont matter what speed your isp is offering in broadband....The actual speed will depend on the number of users sharing the bandwidth. As they offer higher speeds so they increase the number of users sharing...
