We never buy newspapers now.
We watch the local and UK news, and the foriegn networks to get our infomation of whats going on in the world today. We both like to be informed.
Papers have long since gone in our house hold.
We do check out via the net, newpaper sites occassionally to see what others are on about at times though (in the forums)
We got to the stage where we felt the newspapers were biased, and the television reporting was not(a little at sometimes, but not in general)
What do others think?
Do you feel the newspapers are biased at times?
Do you buy them still?
Do you find the telly to be more balanced at reporting things?
I have not bought a newspaper for many years, I do keep informed of the news by many forms tv and internet.
My thoughts have always been some people read and accept what they read to be true, I can never believe all that I read and always would leave it open to question.
The press do not get my money.
As at the end of the day they report what they want and it isn't always the facts.
I don't think its worth buying a paper more than once every few weeks really. A lot of them are filled with opinions of professional writers. Who can produce reams of opinion on just about anything. Written in comfort, miles away from the actual events, imagined more than experienced. Much of this is reprinted throughout the week but under different headings or sections.
Its worth buying some following a major event. But usually there's more opinions than real news.
Not bought a paper for ages(except for news of the world, mainly for the tv guide).
I've not really watched the tv news much either since the "we're all doomed" housing market crash, banking muppets dragged over the coals...well sort of rolleyes
I think I must tune it out when them topics are talked about.
I actually think the last paper I bought was after the Twin Towers were flown into.
I bought them then for a reaon, to keep them, and to show my kids, who then were kids, but when they were of an age to let them read in black and white and to see the enormity of such a suicide mission, and then to understand the things that then happened after that day, as of course we knew there would be consequences!
I only buy the local daily these days. The national broadsheets are full of doom and gloom and the red tops full of chavs and pseudo celebs whom I have no interest in whatsoever. I watch the national and local news to catch up on what's going on in the world.
I sell newspapers in my shop but rarely bother to read them. I watch the lunchtime national, international and local news between customers. That, apart from the snippets posted on the forum, is the extent of my media interaction on a daily basis. The radio is only on while I wake up (so that doesn't count cos I aint concentrating) and I ignore anything that appears on my ISP homepage whenever I log on.

I buy newspapers and I watch news on TV, listen to it on the radio and I read news websites. I like a plurality of viewpoints. I am also a current affairs junkie!
As for the question are newspapers biased, no more than news websites or TV channels really: all depends on the ownership and the political ideology of the person/corporation who owns the site/paper/channel.
It is always interesting to know who owns what I find. Illuminating in many cases. It also helps to read things with an open and inquiring mind, that way you are more likely to research and verify stories rather than just accept them as fact.
I agree with Nola, all media is biased in one way or another so to get a ballanced view I trawl the News channels, radio stations and read the news papers. News papers are normaly read at the weekend (Guardian on Sat and Sun times on sunday) when I have slightly more time. Internet news read on a daily basis and the BBC and Channel 4 news watched nightly on top of that I watch question time and the Andrew Marr show on Sunday morning. Reading back I think I may be obsessed with the news lol.
