ever since the water companies banned the use of hosepipes in so many areas, it has virtually done nothing but rain culminating in huge flooding, especially in the south east where the rain was most needed.
as a suggestion, the next time the water companies start on about water levels getting low, there best bet is just to introduce a hose pipe ban for a month. it is like a magic wand being raised to the clouds.
oh and btw,,,,the chief executive of thames water a Martin Baggs, was awarded a bonus of 420 thousand pounds as a bonus yesterday, even though thames water had let its customers down so badly. but maybe it was he himself who waved that magic wand that brought all the rain, and that is why he got the bonus? lol
you really could not make it up.
Same here, in the North West of England as well.
I have to agree with Starlight last time I heard United Utilities had issued a 'drought order' was about 3 years ago and it hasn't stopped raining since. Well apart from today (there may have been a couple of other days in the last few years that it hasn't rained).
down our road Thames Water have left a water main gushing since 12th May....
finally fixed it yesterday after god knows how many hours on the phone to them....
we`ve had water from the sky n water from the ground... pretty much got a new olympic swimming venue on our green!!!!!!!!!!
n was it good tonight to have a hot shower.....

as long as it did not come from your hose pipe though eh? wink
The whole thing is ridiculous. Here in a southern water region we're not allowed to top up our swimming pool with a hose pipe but we can with buckets of water from a mains tap providing - yep you guessed - the bucket wasn't filled with a hosepipe smile
Mind you with the rain so far we've had to let water out to the drain not top it up.
Now we're told that all this rain, nearly a foot in the last month or so makes not one jot of difference because apparently our water comes from underground sources and it takes the rain a long time to seep through the ground.
I have it on good authority from a man in the water board the reason they ban hosepipes is because all calculations are done with the assumption people leave them running. Totally ignoring the fact most people fit triggers to them and actually use less. I tend to believe this because in some areas while hosepipes are banned, pressure washers are still ok.
Madness.
... and we wake up this morning to the news the ban will be lifted tomorrow smile

because just in case we see sun all day today, then they can just carry on with the ban lol . i think it is rediculous that in the uk in 2012 there is a ban on hose pipes. how do other european hot countries manage? countries like spain etc have very long and hot summers yet when we go on holiday there, everywhere has a sprinkler system and always looks nice and green.
yet over in the uk, one of the most developed countries in the world apparently, the sun coming out for anything over 5 days brings on talk of bans of this and bans of that. i think the water companies especially in the south should invest more into getting more water from up north to down south. instead of appeasing there shareholders and there chief execs bonuses.

Once upon a time for sure. There are supposed third world countries that put us to shame now. Shame!
I reckon 1 month tops until bans are re-imposed in some areas.

Why should the North of England :-x have to be shipping precious water ..... errm then again given that, apart from Tuesday, it never really seems to stop raining redface Starlight  Might actually dry the place out a bit.
