i have lived in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Lincolnsire, Leicestershire, and Sussex. And can say without hesitation, that northern chippies are the best. Can't decide between Yorkshire (excellent fishcakes), and Lancashire (steak n kindey puds). I'm getting hungry just thinking about this!!

Ooooooooo - best Steak Puddings I have ever had are from the St Annes Fish Bar in StAnnes near Blackpool.
Big chunks of steaks, rich tasty gravy and melt in your mouth crumbly suet pastry.
I'm starving now!!!!!!!!!
Hugs Alex x x
Now you are torturing me! sad
Chips, two S&K puds, mushy peas on top, then curry sauce, then loads of ketchup. Washed down with a decent bottle or three of Medoc! STOPPIT!!!
I am not reading this thread, I am not reading this thread, I will not eat fish and chips, I will not eat fish and chip lol
But if I did eat fish and chips I would definately recomend Knott End Chippy, near to Poulton in Lancashire, fantastic fish and chips and they are so big, one portion feeds two of you!

even brought genhertscpl chips and fish mushy peas
genherts sat beside me whinging that u still haven't taken them for a curry yet sort it U2 show them some northern hospitality
yep leppo , its a quality chippy ,, the curry date will happen i promise , sorry again genhertscpl redface surprisedops:
Fish and chips? Pah, who needs it? :P 50 miles south east-ish of me is Montgomery's, in Margate, same sort of distance north west-ish, is Cooke's, in Shepherd's Bush. Both do fine homemade pie, mash and liquor ( parsley gravy ) - though Cooke's is noticably superior cool biggrin
Living on the south coast means I'm qualified to comment on the southern chippy's - or fish shops as we call them.
Most of them round here will do you a decent bit of cod, huss or plaice. Some do more exotic fair - like skate. We get mushy peas, curry sauce, and even battered Mars Bars
We do get pies but there's usually just a choice of steak and kidney, minced beef or chicken and mushroom. They're not up to much, usually pre-cooked and nuked, with soggy bottoms and hard tops.
The one thing I'd love to see brought back is chips cooked in dripping... although it probably wouldn't go down too well with Jamie Oliver wink

As Al Murray said in one of his live shows "On your way home tonight, if you see a scooter, run him over, it might be the boy Oliver". cu3b4ll is bang on though - bring back dripping and lard for frying!
Not many decent chippys in our area all just mainly indian takeaways and chinese takeaway. Theres one chippy along the road which does the job but they dont do chips and gravy or chips and curry sauce.
Probably just as well cause id end up living on them all the time rolleyes
a good chip is a good chip,
but is it not what u put on or around your chip that makes it a regional dish
tk, brown sause , mint sause, bread, gravy, curry sause, deep fried mars bar etc,,
what do u put on your chips
My cousin is a Yorkshireman. he used to buy a bag of chips, put the salt and vinegar on and then squeeze the wole bag until the vinegar dripped out of it. Then he ate the lot.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned Butter Pies. Good job I can't get them in the Mildands as I'd be trying to lose about 10st rather than 2st if I could.
There are no better fish and chips, ever, than the ones bought on Blackpool seafront from my uncle after walking through the illuminations on a freezing cold winters night.
Being a northern boy living down south I have the experience of both a CLASSIC CHIPPY and the more posher Fish & Chip shop.
When i first came down here and ordered my traditional northern dish of Pudding, Chips, peas and gravy I was greeted with a very strange look LOL...
And on that note I have to say that the Northern Chippy is by far the best.. Not found many places down here that do a Chip Butty !!!!!!!!
Some of the Fish & Chip shops even all gravy (SAUCE) why is that?
