Obscure Musical Tastes
I've always liked Half Man Half buscuit. I first saw them on The Old Grey Whistle Test. The lead singer wore an Ajax football shirt before sportswear was fashionable. He was sooo cool.
Friends think I made this band up to sound cool when we discuss music but they are real.

Bands i've discovered by accident
Went to see The Wonderstuff many years ago and the first support had 2 bass players, rather a unique sound and i know a few others on this site who've discovered Neds Atomic Dustbin :thumbup:
Also bought an album by Banco de Gaia on the strength of a reveiw in a small fanzine, now i have several others. Cool, relaxing chilled tunes with samples and loops collected from tibet, africa etc. well worth digging out for those laid back moments.
Have had many great finds from the bargain bin of my now defunct favourite record shop including an album by The Aloof (if you like masive attack etc you'll probably like these guys) they've split up now but went on to form The Sabres of Paradise & Red Snapper- both worth checking out.
I could go on for hours but i'll shut up now

I think they did something about Chigley as well, which is where the train thing comes from.

I'm a fan of the bootleg/mash-up scene which involves turning old familiar songs into something new by blending them together. a good example of this can be found here.....
the tunes on this page are downloadable. Im sure you will love what the doors and blondie sound like "mashed up" together......

Sabres... have one of theres too...>haunted dancehall< actually first heard on Radio 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :shock:
recently heard Warren Suicide..anyone know them?.. a strange blend... sounds quite retro electronica, but the album >albumn!!!???< CD i have 2005.
A little bit of Phillip Glass every now and then ..
and from earlier years as a hawkwind nut.. got to hear many *offshoot* bands bearing odd names.. Stravinski shoe? etc.
and as for supports... once at a Sisters of Mercy gig... again a while ago... late eighties I think... Skeletal Familly.. great stuff... but they did a raucous cover of *silver Machine*... so I was sold Immediately.
for lyrics... Nick Cave.. and another of those aforementioned "unconventional voices"
but I can easily move in a single bound from Killing Joke (noise, anger) to Beth Orton... (not so noisey)... via Aphex twin.. (a bit mad) and Broadcast... errmm. different again...
not that this sums up the taste-spectrum..

:lol: :lol: :lol: I used to hang round with the bass players brother, they came from close to where I lived, so I knew their music from very early on although I haven't listened to anything but their old stuff for a long time.
Erm older one's, Dan Reed Network, the Crimson Twins who you can access online easily and features a site member
New bands probably only a local band called RECON.

I've recently discovered a band called Stabbing Westward and their s/t album is just sooooo good!
Heavy metal try Panic Cell. A group of 5 guys from London who love nothing better than hanging out with the crowd before and after their set. They're a really nice bunch too. The first time I saw them I went alone and they guys looked after me all night, kept me company and made sure I got a taxi home safe. I'm off to watch them support American Headcharge again next month and no doubt get totally bladdered with them again
If it's chill you're after I couldn't recommend anything other than Buddha Bar or Cafe Del Mar

My favourite is snoop doggy dogg and eddie cochran .... an old one now but i love it.
I'm afraid my musical tastes are mainstream rock/metal .... I'm a bit predictable in that sense.

Artist Dr Phibes and the House of Wax Equations - Album - Hypnotwister. Rock meets funk head on in a blender. Saw them live at the old Powerhouse in Islington Awesome night.
Underneath What - Used to see them supporting just about everyone at the Forum Kentish Town in the 90's mentioned here for obscurity value not great music I'm afraid.
Nick Drake - Perfect English Sunny Sunday afternoon music not quite as obscure now.
Artist Gabor Szarbo - Hungarian jazz guitar man sadly died a heroin addict but left some great recordings behind. Check out albums The Sourcerer or Bacchanal
Amon Duul - Saw them at the Astoria a year or maybe two ago I think chaotic but at the same time enthralling, they don't make bands like them no more mores the pity.
