Does it really matter just how many posts people have made on the forums??????
For the life of me I just cannot understand the reason why peo ple post -' ***********so many posts for me', and then others go on to congratulate them!!!!!!
banghead :banghead: :banghead:
Am I missing something fundamental here?
Is the number of posts linked to something more worthwhile?
Is the number of posts a person has made a measure of some sort?
Does any one really care how often another person has posted?
Having said that - I can understand those who make a 'milestone' post and use it to 'really' say something, but those who just say - yippee, xxxxx number of posts for me dunno :banghead:
Am I really alone in feeling this way? mad

nope your not alone. I see no point in it at all and have never bothered doing it myself, nor will I. The number of posts that I make means nought to me, but I guess that for some folk it does.

I totally agree and while we're at it, the introduction/welcome threads can take up half a page and bring on the same feelings of groundhog day as How big are you? or Do you like anal? rolleyes
Incidentally, I was going to agree quietly to myself but thought that a public agreement would not only show solidarity but would also boost my post count.

Actually you make good point Dave.. why is still allowed to prowl the forum spitting venom and hate wherever he goes. Do we have a procedure for dealing with his continual aggression???

Hooray, someone feels the same as me - I sometimes think I'm alone in thinking this. When will some people learn that it's quality not quantity that we want to see in here?

Yup! Me too! I just hate the whole point of these threads - that's if there is one rolleyes
Besides, I seem to remember about a year or so ago this was discussed - the for's and against of post counts.
Didn't it lead to a mass *flounce* of members who thought it actually *mattered* or was that all a dream? lol wink
Tracy-JayneNope, you were not dreaming TJ, it really did happen, but it seems the site continues to suffer from a residual element that appear to believe that it really does matter  hence the usually calm, sweet, nice Kit venting in this room

Mike (watching out for flying teacups!) :wary:
Sorry sir!
okay then... can i make a suggestion.... rather than a "look i have gotten to xxxxx" how about we are allowed one a year on the aniversary of membership... that way the gobby and not so gobby are treated alike.........and it only happens once a year!!!
feel free to rip to pieces???? smile :) :) :)

Bugger, wish I had thought of that.
*Kat wanders off muttering about being past it twice in one post  *
How about we don't do it at all?! biggrin
Honestly, I couldn't care how many posts people have made...I'm more interested if they make me laugh, cry, be angry, etc.
In the time that I've been here, I've seen some really lovely posts by people who have marked their "birthdays" or their post counts but it is a tad annoying when people post "1000 posts - go me".
This has happened recently on a vanilla forum that I've visited and has resulted in post counts being hidden which has caused a lot of flouncing and complaints.

Fabio - I did not say 'you cannot do this' it is not against the site AUP and I am not a mod who has a duty to enforce it. I have simply expressed my opinion and frustration at these types of posts. I do not say they are wrong - just that I cannot relate to the relevance of them in any way whatsoever. If you wish to post 'hey, I have reached xxxxxx posts' please feel free to do so, but do not expect either myself, or a number of others on this site to respond in a positive manner; if at all.
I do not feel that your reference to 'gobby' and 'not so gobby' is relevant. A person can make few posts or many posts - the number of posts a person makes is subject to so many other factors aside from their individual 'gobbiness', that this would be an unacceptable measurement for many in whether they were to be deemed 'gobby' or 'not'.
Saying all that - can you explain the importance of the volume of posts a person makes for me, so that I may try to understand where you are coming from?
I must confess to having done a couple of "milestone" posts, at 500 and 1,000 I think it was.
This was back when the post count was shown in the post itself, and people tended to notice the ones that ended in a few zeros, so I wanted those ones to be as close to "meaningful" as I could get and make a bit of an extra effort. Now that the post count isn't shown (thankfully), I no longer feel the need. I felt back then that the visible post count encouraged some people to post for the sake of posting, and I think that tendency has been drastically reduced by its removal.

I agree.
I believe we really do have a good bunch of people (and KitKat) working behind the scenes caring for the site and its members. I honestly feel privileged to be a part of it sometimes... the rest of the time it's just an almighty headache rotflmao
Oh!! I can just see KitKate enjoying a ruthless revenge!! Headache, is that all I am, I'm aiming to be a migraine at the leasts. DAMN it - failing at being a pain.
*goes off to take lessons on being more awful*
Umm, Jags - I think Mark felt that he had to mention KitKat seperately as he very rightly, didn't really feel he could link him with the 'really good bunch of people' wink
Well, that was how I read it and I am not going to change no matter what any one says hee, hee!

I'm with Makosi on this one, it further lessens the importance of the post number!

Ha ha, I'm glad I kept my 1000th post quiet then. I agree with you though Kit, a landmark number of posts is nothing to be lauded, unless it's a truly staggering number of posts. Especially in my case where it's over 1000 posts in less than 3 months.
Gobby shite aren't I lol
