a rocket! iam sure he would have taken that as a compliment.
i think that although he hits out with some very amazing quotes he does contradict himself with a lot of shite!

Havent read either - shame on me! But I did think that The picture of dorian gray was absolutley phenomenal. as far as dialogue goes I havent seen much better. apparently he was a greater speaker than writer though.

His later stuff is definately better than his early work.
It's a crying shame that he was born 100 years too early. Imagine the laughs we would have if he was an SH forum member

sheer legend.
One should never listen. To listen is a sign of indifference to one's hearers.
Wickedness is a myth invented by good people to account for the curious attractiveness of others.
If one tells the truth, one is sure, sooner or later to be found out.
Time is a waste of money.
To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance.
and my favourite:
I can resist anything but temptation

Very witty man, I don't know a great deal about him apart from a film I saw but he was definately a character I would like to have known.
Thanks Blue - I was trying to sneak in under the wire. I'll do a proper introduction in a week or two.
If I was asked for my favourite film, one of them would have to be "The Importance of being Earnest" with Redgrave, Edith Evans and Margaret Rutherford. It never loses freshness and originality however many times I watch it.
Evans says "A HANDBAG?" and it's just as funny every time. Actually, if it's a quiet night tonight I might just dig out the tape and watch it again.
How one man could pack so many one liners into the one story is marvellous. There's not one every minute but every twenty seconds.
Maid
Indeed, I think Wilde provides the template for all future farce and comedy of manners that emerged during the 20th century. I love 'The Importance of Being Earnest'. Classic!

One should always carry one's diary, to have something interesting to read on the train....
(or something like that...)

Absolute genius! And De Profundis is one of my favourites...been striving for that "improbable life" ever since.
~Reese! surprised
Yep, Genius. Importance of Being Ernest was on one Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. Superb it was. And the recent film Wilde with Stephen Fry was great too, well worth a rental in my humble opinion.

As he said at customs:
'I have nothing to declare except my genius'.

If you will not be too long, I will wait for you all my life.
And here is a stain on the lining caused by the explosion of a temperance beverage.
The suspense is terrible; I hope it will last.
There's no end to them.
