Hello peeps.
Not been a good day today  have spent the entire day building myself a little web site where I can flog my wares  ……….. smackbottom ya mucky buggers, nuffin like that rolleyes
Anyway, my isp is rather generous with the amount of free webspace they supply with our broadband package, so I thought, I know, I’ll compliment my auction trading with a little online shop, as you do. Spent the last 8 hours or so putting it all together in my WYSIWYG editor, clicked publish, only to discover that the buggers don’t support ftp. You have to upload all the pages and files manually, which is a about as much use as a condom in a convent to me as all the links will be useless, and I’m damned if I’m going to spend another 8 hours reconfiguring the links manually online
Does anyone know of any cheap (preferably free) hosting sites that allow commercial content? Or maybe someone knows of a quick way of manually fixing links?
All and any assistance would be gratefully received .

We host our own..
You need a reliable pc though... Tony built a pc just the host the site on and nothing else
He has a web server, ftp server and email server running on it and it works fine... unless we get a powercut or we forget to buy electric cards lol
The domain name was also free that you can set
a program called no-ip duct keeps the ip in line
If you want to host your own and need help, pm us

Numpty comment here.... couldn't you just open the files in Notepad/Wordpad and do a find/replace from FTP to HTTP? dunno

Don't forget that some ISPs block web and mail server ports (mine does :crysmile so check before you invest in any new kit wink

Quite simple way round that, you can change the ports
or
has a port diversion thing now for people who have got certain ports blocked

Hmmm... intriguing wink
I take it your a fan of I'm thinking of switching my connection to one of the much cheaper offerings around, one of the downsides is losing my block of 16 static IP addresses, so some sort of dynamic dns service is important to me.
I'm not sure why you have to change the links just because you are uploading them via a browser interface but you could just use relative links instead of absolute.

Yeah he is a big fan of , he's been using it for a few years now with no problems for all sorts of servers, if you need 16 static ip addresses and your changing isp's then you will become a fan of also as not many isp's offer you that unless you pay them big bucks sad
were on b.t here yet the ip address ain't changed in about 6 months and its should be a dynamic ip

You could possibly try ... that's free ... though issue I had with them myself was the pop-up on each page which I found a bit annoying.

Now you're just showing off ... wink
I think the issue is that Pete can't upload his site by ftp, its not an html coding problem.
So maybe the question should be, are there any free hosting providers out there giving ftp access that won't plaster your website with adds.

Thats the trouble with free host's, they make there money on the adverts sad
Thats why Tony hosted his own, its free, no adds or popups, unlimited space, just a case of copying files to his server rather than having to upload them..
Only problem is it sucks up your bandwidth and makes my browsing SH slow :(
