Anyone had any experience from any of the main supermarkets asking you to go to a nearby shelf to pack your bag instead of in the trolley? Won't mention the supermarket but you do not have to go very far into the alphabet to find the first letter. The operator in Bridgend was literally throwing the items across the scanner. Even by putting the goods in the trolley my daughter and I would not have been able to keep up. She said in a distinctly unfriendly voice, "You'll have to pack quicker than that or we'll ask you to use one of the shelves".
I replied that I had "no intention of packing our stuff twice".
The reply came back that its 'company policy'.
Does 'company policy' extend to the pressurization and humiliation of less agile and more pensionable customers as well wishing to do the same
At mid morning there were only a trickle of customers in the store. Perhaps 'company policy' is working well there too!!!

Thanks both for that. Tweeky, you don't half pick 'em!!!!!!
There will be a letter sent to the store and their head office.

The next time they say it, i suggest you say its your policy to pack your bags at a sensible speed and not feel rushed...We never pay for our goods until we have completely packed our shopping, it stops the checkout staff from serving the next customer whilst your still trying pack your bags and mixing the items up!
I take my own bag packer with me!! :giggle:
Could I suggest that should it happen again (and assuming you haven't already paid) you just leave...don't pack the bags don't put anything back just walk out and let them tidy it up for you
Why not get one of those big reusable bags, like the ones you can get from IKEA and line your trolley with it?

Minx used to look quite flustered after the weekly shopping run. It was getting so bad I feared it may affect her libido.
I now insist that she does a daily shopping trip which avoids any such issues.
I went to my local supernmarket today, and at the checkout was asked -
"Do you have your own bags"
"No"
"Would you like to buy a 'Bag For Life' for 10p"
"No thank you"
The checkout girl then proceeded to pack all my shopping herself into the throwaway bags, explaining that she had to do that as they were running short of them and some people would put only two items into each bag, using them all up.
I'm sure she packed a lot quicker than I could ever do, so no-one was held up.
tescos have always offered a bag packing service .. advice ... stop using the discount stores if you cannt take their rules and dont want the prices
I never allow any stranger to pack my bags. Which is a shame when the charities are doing it. But they generally have no idea how to pack, shove things in upside down, lay packs of yogurts on their sides. And if I have bought clothes too they just bundle them up round the hanger and jam them in the bag. (This is Asda)
No-one touches my bags! :giggle:
Hi all,
Surprise surprise! Had a visit from Aldi's Area Manager this afternoon. Very appologetic for the way we had been treated. Apparently they have not done too well in a survey on customer service and are trying to rectify the position. Apparently it is 'company policy' to ask the customer to use the shelves but not at the expense of upsetting the customer. Ears have been bent so we will see how things go on Saturday.
Thanks to all that replied.
