I'm in charge of pancake making this year so, in preparation for Tuesday, I'm looking for your best pancake topping ideas!
I confess I'm a lemon juice and sugar traditionalist but feel like I should be a bit more experimental this year.
How do you eat yours?
wink
Use Lager instead of milk, it makes for a lighter mix.
Well according to the last poll - ran for the pancake day on Feb 16th people preferred sweet over savory

BTW - At the moment mine's still got to be Greek yogurt, sliced banana and then honey drizzled over the top yummy!
How was Krakow Nola? :confused2:

Why did people have a Pancake Day in February?
Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday - whatever you wish to call it - is this week. It's Ash Wednesday on Weds and Pancake Day is the day before.
I'm a tad confuddled. dunno
Sugar and lemon
Or
Ice cream
Pecan & maple syrup does it for me every time, sweet tooth lol
recipe 1.
make your pancake batter
blitz a banana (or two) into the mix
cook pancakes
top with cripsy streaky bacon & pour on the maple syrup
recipe 2.
make your pancake batter
blitz some cocoa into the mix
cook pancakes
top with choc drops/buttons
recipe 3.
make your pancake batter
add orange/lemon zest
cook pancake
top with clotted cream and lemon curd or ginger jam
and we have loads more ..............
inc savoury versions
I dont really like them but hubby will eat em anytime of the year lol with fresh orange juice and sugar he says yummy
banana inside..sprinkled with sugar......and then drizzle condensed milk over....truely delightfull.
Savoury has to be Brunswick ham and goats cheese chunks put in a hot fresh pancake so it all melts.
Sweet has to be either the classic lemon and sugar, or the indulgent Nutella.
Nom nom nom
*Him*
I quite like marmalade in mine
Has to be butter melted all over with a sprinkle of sugar , but since i`m on a fitness regime at the mo, i`m using low cal sweetner !
And i was surprised the post title "pancakes" is about pancakes..........i had my pervy head on and thought it would be about flat chested women wink
Enjoy xxxx Gray

Flat chested women?
I`m not sure I can comment on that :giggle:
However a really good pancake has raspberries in it and greek yougurt with honey or syrup over it.
Or golden syrup with really good clotted cream or vanilla ice cream mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Ohh and when I was younger we always put sultanas in the pancake mix when it was in the frying pan. Dont think thats been mentioned yet.

lol Read the previous thread, hopefully you'll be a bit unconfuddled?!
i do not like pancakes but mrs star is very good at making them. she only ever has lemon juice and sugar as well but will look at some peeples ways of eating them for some posible new ideas.
I sprinkle grated cheddar, finely minced spring onion and sometimes shredded ham on to the cooked pancake still in the pan. When the cheese melts I roll it up.
Spinach and lots of nutmeg with cheese is good too. The spinach has to be cooked slowly with butter first.
Mushrooms cooked in olive oil and garlic are good.
A couple of times I've shredded a crisp iceberg lettuce and spring onion and chilli with a splash of soy sauce and sesame oil. A bit like a spring roll. Bean sprouts would be a good addition to that.
A banana sliced lengthways thinly, warmed on top of the pancake then with a sprinkle of dark sugar then thick cream and a splash of rum.
Runny honey and lemon juice.
Damson jam and sloe gin
Maple syrup, natch.
One variation is to grate an apple into some of the mix and fry that. It is a lot thicker and needs to be cooked more slowly. Thats nice with cinnamon and caster sugar.
Olive oil to fry the savoury ones; butter for the sweet ones.
And as people who know me will verify, I'm a tosser.
i like them with either lemon or orange juice and sugar smile
traditional is best for me :)
have had them with fruit pie filling and cream which is lovely but to sickly to eat a whole pancake .... gary usually finishes mine :)
