I don't usually get involved in these sorts of threads......purely because I don't like confrontation and I often don't see the point in getting involved with something that will go off in a really controversial direction.....if that makes sense.....
I have been on the Site well over a year now, and I have noticed that it HAS changed quite a lot......there are a lot more people here for one thing and that means that there is a lot of bullshit posts, but actually I quite like those posts because it shows off the personality of people.....
I spend quite a bit of time in LMU because I love it there and I'm constantly looking out for things to get involved in......and it doesn't bother me that we get the "I want a shag" brigade....I try to help them and tell them where they are going wrong and give them some advice rather than shooting them down....
I feel that there are some people here that spend quite a bit of time trawling round the site looking for people to criticise....so what if someone's spelling/grammar isn't up to par or if someone posts something that has been done a hundred times, it may well leave us with some fresh ideas and fresh views on things.....
I personally love this site and spend probably far too much time on here.....but I have made some great friends and I love going to Socials/Munches/Parties/Meets etc......and I wouldn't leave this place for the world.
So thank you to Mark and all the Mods for looking after us, but mostly to all the people that make up this site.......

The quality posts are simply swamped with one line replies, quote in- quote in- quote in- quote in- quote in -quote in -quote posts, two people having a public PM session, psudeo mods, less than perfect peeps having a bitch n moan, and there is no-one bouncing off each other with the light hearted banter.
The thought about or comical responses are being lost in the sea of folk so eager to reply to a thread to get their post count up that by the time you have got to it, alas it has sunk to page four and the comment you want to bounce off was on page 2 of the now 12page thread of shite. Post count stands for nothing here on its own, it's always considered with the date you joined, which kind of makes the "race to 1000 squad" efforts a little bit pointless. dunno

Threads wether serious or humerous, on topic or off, ran for longer, were better constructed and members generally enjoyed them more. There wasn't the proliferation of one word, one line posts and 'list' threads that there are now, these are piss easy options and symtomatic of a larger membership who do not know, understand, nor much care for the content of others posts or indeed where those posts might go.

I've not much to add to the bits I agree with most from the people who have said what I feel about the cafe. I must just add that there are too many posts to sort through, taking up a lot of the room in here, where posters think they are brilliantly witty, but where most are in fact desperately unfunny.
It would definitely improve the quality if people rationed their posts to when they really felt they had something significant to say - I suppose this might sound a little pompous, but I genuinely feel this would enhance the forum.
Mike.
I sometimes wonder if we have members here that spend their time trawling thru posts n topics just to stick the boot in and nothing else . ,,,,,i hope im wrong !

tut tut tut hornyred! are you suggesting for one moment that we might have some members who's sole purpose in life seems to be to troll LMU and post negative, thinly veiled jibes and personal comments on pretty much every naive newbie ad that pops up, and watch said newbies get deactivated for telling aforementioned self-appointed critics to fuck right off? naaaawwwwwwwwwwww NOONE would do that, would they, and i'm sure if they did, they'd at least make something of a positive contribution themselves before sticking the size 9s into every bugger elses contributions!? confused :? :? rolleyes ;)

Usually it is, and it used to fascinate me. Now, however, it's been going on for long enough to become an established trend. When the mods start feeling the need to make sincere heartfelt posts on the matter, then we should all be sitting up and taking notice, for they more than anyone are familiar when cyclic trends and are unlikely to comment, or feel the need to fade into the background if that is all it is. Mark has said on more than one occasison that it is the people who make the site, we all set the tone, this is out of the mods hands, and I should imagine they must be sitting back in despair when they work so hard to maintain a site that many people choose to fill with poison. I, and others, are done trying to set a nicer tone in the face of adversity. Hopefully, with some of the latest posts on the subject, the tide will finally turn.

what she said!

What I would say to newer posters is scan back to this time last year, read some old threads and you might get a feel for a cafe that had humour in it on a daily basis, it might have been bollox, but it was funny, with well thought out clever posts, good bollox ain't that easy despite what some may think, but we managed it, there didn't seem the time to partake in a thread that required us to list our favourite tog rating for duvet covers, thank fuck.
All of the above may well be complete twaddle and is more comment than fix, but I do think that by giving each other a bit more breathing space, perhaps stepping outside of the comfy group that we normally hit it off with the best, you might just get some of the feeling back that used to exist.

oh yeah and what he said as well!
the_laird! worship :worship: :worship: i've had a little rant on this very subject sat in my documents for ages, but refrained from posting it, cos for one, it was a million pages long, for two i don't do rants or negativity anymore (((( yeah right! lol ))) and for three, yours was miles better and much more reasonable than mine! biggrin agree with every word. it's tiresome, it's discouraging, newbies pick up on it and perpetuate the negative trend, and sadly it feeds into the atmosphere of the entire forum after a time.
bitter and twisted we don't need. a tad more of a positive approach from EVERY member, no matter how long they've been here, and a little more of the welcoming attitude and blind eye to cock ups that most of us established regs enjoyed when we joined would make a refreshing change at times. walking a fine line and posting a thinly veiled personal comment just inside the AUP that causes a personal comment outside the AUP to come back smacks of entrapment. posting something calculated to be inflammatory or to get a rise is trolling, no matter who does it.
anyone can rip a post to bits, if they're that way inclined, but frankly it takes a bit more effort to make something of a positive contribution.

Runs off to start a thread about another of Little Gem's mis-haps ( not car related this time! ;) ) and dazzle you all with how utterly idiotic I can be instead of Pming.
biggrin
See I'm trying...

A cracking thread, I only hope that people read this and take notice of everything said in it. If there was a page of forum rules, then the whole of this thread would be in it biggrin
My gripe at the moment - yeh I'm gonna gripe lol but will offer something constructive too hopefully confused ........ ok here goes - I am absolutely disgusted with the way some of the newer members are being treated sad Just recently there was a thread, a thread that had great potential because it was so 'out of the box'.
The thread originator made a right pigs ear of the first post - understatement really, it was dreadful...... I managed to read the first 3 pages and had to leave the forums for a couple of hours :( ..... Instead of offering anything constructive people dived on this guy. OK he asked for it, his post was dire - but his next few posts were of him trying to correct himself, reword it, apologise etc - all this was ignored. Instead the abuse getting worse and basically telling this person to shut up.
I can't understand for the life of me why this 'pack' instinct takes over. The guy had some opinions - noone asked him why he thought this or listened when he tried to correct himself. Of the many pages, there were only a handful of posts offering some sort of alternative opinion/advice, reasons why he shouldn't think like that, but these posts were swamped by the abusive posts.
So my request would be that if you really disagree with what someone is saying, tell them why, don't just tell em they're a moron, believe me, it doesn't put anyone in a very good light - ask questions about the bits you are angry at them for, give them a chance to back up their argument. Listen and respond. You soon pick up who is a genuine troll if they aren't offering that same respect by listening to constructive advice/opinions, taking anything on board etc.
If you are just plain angry at a post, can't be bothered to offer anything other than an insult, then just ignore it, it will soon sink!
I don't think anyone wants to be a part of a forum where everyone thinks the same or has the same opinions. That's the beauty of it, we're always promoting what a diverse bunch we are - but lately we seem to be stamping on anyone that does have opinions that are a bit off the wall, not PC, crass etc. All of us have our little quirks, live and let live - and if you really can't stand em, then ignore them!!! We can't all get along with everyone!!!
Trolls do soon let themselves be known, regardless of what people post in response to em!
God it's late, gonna delete all this in the morning

Shouldn't this have been posted in LMU?
Possibly via a new account?!

Well, not a lot more can be said that has not already been said.
I would certainly agree with the comments from MikeNorth, davej and Missy, but to be honest they always have something constructive to say.
It’s not worth quoting them, as if you read this far then you will know anyway.
The only other bit I wanted to say was just a huge thank you to the Laird to post something that obviously people have been thinking.
There have been a couple of posts recently from newbies that have been immediately jumped on and berated solely because some individuals have taken it as a slur against SH and the common reply will usually be, “if you don’t like it leave”.
The fact that this was posted by a respected member of the community and immediately followed by other respected members has fortunately allowed this thread to grow into something that is not criticism, just constructive feedback.
This is a site for all, not just a select few. Everyone has an opinion and we are all different, that’s what makes us human. We should allow that opinion to be heard unless it breaks site rules.
We all know that there really has been some incredibly boring threads recently, but this thread may just be hinting at the fact individuals are wary of posting anything that is contentious.
Definitely food for thought – thank you the_Laird

I have selectively quoted this post but I agree with every word said. I have to say I have found the treatment of some people, who have often made a fairly innocent mistake, to be violent and distasteful on occasions. I would like to add my tuppence worth to Missy's plea for tolerance and respect. I know this is repetition but I think it does bear repeating.

At first this did put me off a bit as I felt that if I entered a comment. I wouldn't even get noticed due to not being known or not even knowing what the quote quote quotes are about.
