Being on here sometimes we do get to see peeps if they use a piccie as an avatar, but other we form a mental picture... I also wonder what people sound like, whether we are dissappointed when we finally meet depends on what we value in people.
Looks are OK but for me they are someway down the list certainly after personality and humour and how much they apparently care about you more that themselves...
Peeps full of their own sense of importance , whislt they may look stunning rarely make good mates as far as I am concerned, and they prob would never stuick around to bother with me.... leaving me with more time to ponder other peeps...
Sarge I just had no idea what you would look like .... I still think of you as bilko....
some peeps I look fwd to meeting ... am certain I will not be dissappointed in most cases.

But why?
Because from the day we are born people make the most fuss of us about the way we look. Nobody ever says about a newborn baby "ahh, he/she is gorgeous, but what about the personality?"
You spend your whole childhood being told how important it is to look your best - then suddenly as an adult, it is not supposed to matter any more! How many parents on here have tried to stop their kids scoffing all their easter eggs in 5 minutes flat with the dire warning, spoken in your best doom and gloom tone "You don't want to get fat do you?" -
back to the original subject - I also paint pictures of people from what I know of them on the site. As I get to know people, they begin to remind me of people I have known, so I will think of them as looking like that person.

having worked with blind/impared people in the past i find voices more up front....

Alexandra has some of the funniest, and that is her being herself, tongue in cheek, and full of fun, likewise a few of the fellas too! I often swap mine about like a chamelion , and I like to offer a laugh for others, if at my expense, then at least we are laughing together......

KAt I was not trying to say that all good looking people end up as being self mportant,
but self important peeps who may be considered good looking as well are unlikely to stick around so it don't matter how good looking they are.
re imagining how peeps look is down in some part to the snippets we release about ourselves in various posts. yesterday Kat I think I learned you wear a moustache...

And sometimes stocking too if that helps gman :lol: I do, and I have had one for all my adult life, and I never realised till I got on here that some people who actually find a moustache positively unattractive! Not so long ago I also had the full Grizzly Adams look, (or Mick Foley look for the younger forum members). Now how many people on here would easily picture me with shoulder length hair and a full beard!
I do grow a beard now and again, and it allways amazes me, when people first see me with a beard they say "It makes you look younger" then when I shave it off they say "It makes you look younger". I reckon I may have found the secret to perpetual youth!

I too am aware of the anti beard lobby but having worn one for more than half my life I would feel lost without one, and would likely be divorced if I did lose it!!!! took it off once and she hardly spoke to me till I grew it back ,
however although there are some ladies perfer clean shaven, I did bump into a lady recently who was decidedly excited cos I had a beard....
takes all sorts...
so that is another part of the Gman picture painted....

Reason for putting my pic on the avatar. Well its been a long old journey for me to get to where I am

Been reading this thread from the start and have decided to drop my views in !
I too make mental pictures of people I'm typing to. It's never done consciously like a photofit but I do find myself with a feeling of how they appear striking me at some point.
Those I've seen pictures of have surprised me at times and those I met at the munch who I've seen on my screen all looked better than their photos suggest. There was some serious beauty and some striking profiles in the room on Saturday - no matter how modest people involved are !
Coming back to typing yesterday afternoon felt strange - like pieces of jigsaw had been glued over the top of existing pieces - the imagined being replaced by the real.
Whats even more wonderful though is that now I'm a day back into the forum I hardly think about looks etc again as I'm just back amongst "the regulars" as I have been since December.
So, whilst looks and avatars are important, to these eyes and typing fingers it's the posts that count and the picturing of people that provides extra intrigue.
Musings over - safe for you all to come back out now !

I am not anti facial hair I promise! All the men I know with fcial hair suit it and I think they would look lost without it lol !! An ex of mine has left me scarred mentally lol He had very rough growth and left me sore for weeks :shock: the bast**d (I swear it was on purpose)

I am pleased that you are coming round to the more natural guy.... daily shaving is a form of torture... men were made to have beards , some would say the more beard growth the more testosterone and thus the more manly....
But I am just a lazy softie... but as with all hairy bits I keep it well trimmed and condition at least once a week so that its stays delightfully soft....( just the beard that is)
The mosutache is I am told an added benfit for the ladies when I am down in the zone!!!
