Do really like the new site...particularly being able to communicate through the site without giving home email...however, lots of talk about site being cluttered.....I thought ads were removed if not updated after 30 days? I was very surprised to see many many photo ads which were not only more than 30 days old....but hundreds if not thousands ranging from 30 days to 3 years old!!! One search I did..out of 1600 postings....only 400 were within 30 days. The oldest going back to Feb 2003...is anything being done to clear out the clutter?

As a newbie you're talking out your arse. Firstly, there can't be much worse than someone whinging on their first post - why do it?
Secondly, all ads remain on the site until deleted, so are searchable. But only those posted in the last 30 days are visible. What fucking difference does it make to anyone whatsoever if every ad is still there?
I know what I would do at this particular moment with this particular thread - but I can't!!

This is certainly not a moan and a groan and for the record...although this is my first posting...I`ve been a member for 2 years now and have really enjoyed some amazing experiences, thanks to Swinging Heaven. My comments are a valid observation.... I believe in quality, not quantity...,..personally, I don`t have limitless time to spend all day on the computer sifting through hundreds of adverts to see if they are still valid..whilst it may seem fantastic to have wonderfully high numbers appear on our searches...my thought is, this well respected site, will lose some credibility if a very high proportion of very old adverts are left on there for the sake of it. Not a moan and groan..just an observation from a busy person!

Of course....thinking about it and reading about the takeover...makes `good` commercial sense to show such high search figure results..regardless whether the photo ads are current, or 1....2 or 3 years old....particularly for the new unsuspecting person who will no doubt be paying a fee to join...being impressed by the numbers???? Quality not quantity, of genuine current ads is paramount if the site is to continue its previous success.

First post a moan, normal human nature sadly most people write far more letters of complaint than they do letters saying "ohh this is great". Even when a person does write a letter saying "ohh this is great" they normaly add "BUT just one thing I noticed"

If I was looking at this forum and reading these replys to a first and second post I would probably never post again.
In reply now to the original issue yes I think they should clear out the old adverts they dont serve any point. Or at least maybe they could send out a standard mail to the users and ask them to pop in and update. I still have a ton of mail in my sent box that is unread after 2 months because when I first came here I was wasteing time mailing dead ends.

Seeing as the quote you chose to highlight in your own post was mine it deserves some form of reply. It you look again you will find that the person claimed to have been here two years before he posted anything, which is fine, what my personal objection was that the first and only post at the time (after 2 years of allegedly being here) was a blatant moan, what a great way to fit in. If the person felt strongly enough to moan about an issue then why not do it two years ago, or a year ago. even six months ago. I am sure there was just as much clutter 3 months ago as there is now.
I too love the ads section, it has rewarded me well and still does. "If it works then dont change anything. If it works well then do it again" (cant remember the author)
I know someone who has a couple of ads on here who works abroad and gets home every six months or so and only updates his ad on his return to the UK. He has very limited access to any form of Internet connection abroad other than work related. Security concerns will restrict many of our friends abroad regarding being able to log on to such sites as SH. So should his ad be deleted, or cleared out as some people put it? People come and go, some even for 2 year gaps (allegedly) . Moaning about something here on this web site regarding the infrastructure will rarely if ever change anything other than to breed negatives and promote others to moan. The way forward at this critical stage is via positive means and a coming together of this community. We will all stand or fall by that unity or the lack of it. It is time for consolidation and a positive structured outlook. We need to move on and upward and we can only do this in unity, not by whinging and moaning about something that we canot change.

Very valid point - this thread seems to have gone off on a tangent - to bring it back online I think the photo ads should be de-cluttered because as a regular user of the serach function it p*sses me off when I keep finding ad's that are over 2 months old. The ad's section is for ad's not for profiles.
BTW flat to the head gets my vote!

to be honest i don't update my ad very often... so since my ad is there more for the purposes of information rather than an ad in itself... if i decided not to update it, would mine be one of the ones to go?????
i think some of the problem with the first post moans is that before the changes people who used the forum and/or the chatrooms saw themselves at seperate entities to a bigger site...
(which was actually funny at munches... where people in the chatroom had no idea who i was because i rarely stepped in there, and i had no idea of who they were.. part of the fun of meeting new people i suppose)
with all the changes that have happened alot more people from the photo ads have stepped in here and haven't realised the community that was here before/ the community they are stepping into....so it has come as a shock...
me personally, i lurked for a while before i posted in the forum, that for me was to scope out the surroundings and have a better feel for the place i was entering... but i do sense that a lot more people are now jumping in feet first..

Surely an old ad is better than no ad. If you want to know if the person is still about to contact, then there is a bit on the profile that says:Last logged in: 2hours ago
If that says 6months ago I htink you can safely say theyre not around to contact and it would waste your time.
