PM etiquette... any strong feelings?

Hi,
I have never been in the chatroom (too fast for little old me), but know that most chatrooms have an etiquette on pvt chat - i.e - ask first.
I was just wondering if there was any such etiquette here on the forum? (okay - I know I've been around almost long enough to know - but I still don't dunno

) I have always shied away from PM's till I have had a chance to get to "know" the person in open forum - and I do love getting PM's from those that I have met at a munch - or just got to know on here. And yes - I do enjoy the ones I get from the established members taking the piss out of my "one liner shag PM" comment at the bottom of my sig. lol

They make me laugh and I know they are all a bit of fun. But I tend to get a bit miffed when I get a PM off someone who has just joined and has zero posts to their credit.
Am I just being a grumpy old swinger (TM Wil Willy) - or do others feel the same? Maybe I am just being pedantic and a grump?

There has been quite a few 1 line pm's.......tall dark n handsome, wanna get to know you etc etc......very off putting, prefer a litttle more chat on the forum 1st....so hey chat tooooooo me then pm me promise I wont bite......well not straight away........but I would if you ask nicely enough :P :twisted: :twisted:

yes you are. i'm so sick of seeing complaints about this mass of wanna shag PM's landing willy nilly in everybody's inbox, EXCEPT MINE! mad

tho obviously i can see how it's polite to actually be vaguely familiar with the lucky PM victim, or possibly even have said a quick hello on a thread first? unlike the 2 completely random PM's i got within 5 minutes of registering as well_busty_baby for the masquerade ball! :lol2: i'm sure it wears very bloody thin.

I suppose the difference is, if someone pesters you with PMs on here, you can just bin them without reading them. That's more difficult in the chatroom... for most people, PMs just pop up, and if you're looking at the keyboard you might inadvertently send a reply to them that was meant for someone else. :shock:

hey really, i never got told that, and i am 50-50 :lol: :twisted: thing is hun, i hate disapointment, and when the 14 inches turns out to be 3 inches, and the 3 days turns out to be 30 seconds, i get so bloody pissed off wink

well being a old hand on IRC, I still use the same respect I give to people on it, as I cant ask beforehand, I ensure that my PM is nothing that could be offensive, that includes any one liners about how I would do this that or the other to whoever it si I am PMing
with a unsolicitored PM my thoughts are to
be polite
be as brief as possible
do not try the chat up lines
by following these simple guides I avoid making myself appear a total
