Does anyome find like myself that the interest in politics in general has declined in recent years. The Politics and the Politicians seem bland and uninteresting and have nothing new or radical to say.
It sems that it is professionalised and sterilsed beyond the point that it is intersting to listen to or remark on.
Is it the fact that the politicians are too afraid for their careers/jobs/salaries/pensions to stick thier necks out and say stuff that can ignite the public interest?
Only today left for these 'loved up' polyticians to slavver over us then it will be back to the same old routine...
screwing us senseless and taxing us till the pips squeak rolleyes
Not one single person has been round and campaigned in our area...
Years ago there used to be a knock at the door every half hour during local elections....
It seems even the politicians have lost interest...

Or is that the fear of someone giving them a right mouthful of abuse (or worse) for disturbing a household by knocking on their door dunno
I have to admit the local candidate for my area has been around door to door, has a regular spot where you can go chat to him and has made sure we all have all his contact details, which I have to say I found very strange since its the first time in a long time since anyone has been around.
Guess he is new and enthusiastic lol.

Does the fear of a mouthfull of abuse stem from the fact they know they have done a shite job(again) :dunno:

Possibly but they obviously feel they are doing a good job or they wouldn't continue to stand, would they :dunno:

Ours just use campaign leaflets. I've had enough of this bleeding junk mail for a month's recycling and that's exactly where it all goes without being read rolleyes

Yes, and I can remember going back about 12 years, my daughter was 3 and I was on my own. This very sleezy looking man with hallitosis arrived at my door asking why I hadn't voted.. I pointed to my toddler in her nighty and said.. "I'm not going out now, she's just had a bath.." to which he replied.. "if you run up now, I'll sit on the doorstep and watch over her!".. Um, not on your life pal!
I'm probably going to be fired at for this but... I acknowledge women fought for our right to vote, but I don't vote. I cannot find one single party that doesn't fill us with the same old crap they have done for years. I find all politicians transparent, they are more interested in getting their legs over and their expenses... sorry but that's how I feel! evil
Politicians, when did politics start being about holding power and not doing something with it. still we voted for the bunch of hollow, ineffectual... Now here we are, the country run by public opinion. Serve us right.
I think it also needs a population that is interested in politics, if it is to become more powerful and effective.
I used to be a non voter, thinking that it was all pointless. But now I weigh up what is on offer and make a decision for better or for worse.
But it certainly would be more entertaining if we did have some glamorous ladies and dashing gentlemen fronting the houses of parliament.
So maybe Trinnie and Susanna could do some makeovers?

no point in voting, the government always wins

I'll vote for anyone who promises to banish those 2 to a land far far away and doesnt have television...

I used to think like that. But its about taking part and being involved as much as you can. Making a decision in a democratic way, etc.
You can also exercise your right not to participate etc.
It's only a few minutes out of your life to make a cross on a piece of paper, etc.
For the first couple of years I was able to vote, I went along and put my little cross in a box!!! I didn't care which box, any box, except the BNP.
I realised this was worse then not voting at all. So now unless someone really inspires me to vote, I dont bother.
I have no idea who the candidates in my local area are, no idea what their stance on environmental issues are, on road policy, on anything.
The politicians in this area, dont seem to care, so why should I?
Some basic rules concerning Politicians
1 – If their lips move, they are lying
2 – No matter what they say they are going to do, once they get to parliament, the party whips will tell them that it is not party policy and they have no chance.
3 - Any politician, once in power, will be given a ministry post in accordance to which that person is least qualified
4 – They will stand on any soapbox and preach about family values and an idealistic way of life whilst thinking about what they will be doing that night with the secretary, a bottle of baby oil, various whips and an unknown white powder…
5 – No matter what party is in power, they will inform you that the latest tax increase, either direct or indirect, will be for the sake of the environment which will then be channelled into paying for anything other, than cleaning the planet. More important issues need to be settled such as new cars, visits to other countries to encourage trade deals with the UK ( read holidays with benefits…)
Personally, we follow the maxims of Mr Billy Connelly…”don’t vote ‘cause it only encourages them..”
I'm sure I heard somewhere quite some time ago that the votes of the abstainers(those that dont bother to vote) are counted and go the party currently in power..dunno
If this is the case then by not voting you are actually voting .... confused

If you look at it carefully, I think that inference can be drawn from proportional representation rather than FPtP so you could well be right. Am I right in thinking that the Welsh Assembly and the Scottish Parliament elections are counted proportionally? :dunno:
Here's an idea to ponder on... What would happen if they held an election and everyone being so pi**ed off with the 'same sh*t, different package' deal that nobody voted ???
Makes you wonder... rolleyes
The truth be said that people died giving everyone a vote and therefore a choice and it is a crime that the state of the political situation currently means that whosoever you choose... will be exactly the same as the previous..
So I would surmise that one of the many reasons that the electorial turn out is so low these days is that people have worked it out that voting is a waste of time.. it will still end up the same.
Sooooooooooo.....Mrs DD and myself are of the opinion that it is time for a change.. We need to form the SH 'Wild Party' to stand at the next election.
Vacancies for those who wish to 'stand' are now open and ministerial positions are up for grabs.. your nominations please.. bolt

You live in the wrong area!
We are inundated with them! our doormat is full of election campaign leaflets- it's driving me nuts, avery day there are at least 5 new leaflets!
Actually, Malcolm chisolm came and did the rounds recently, had a good long chat with me, after me telling him about the lack of recycling for our flats, 2 days later the whole street was supplied with bins for all the flats, i also chatted to him about various things regarding the hospital i work at, so he arranged a visit for the chairman to com and address issues with staff!
I also complained about crazy 'traffic calming measures' near our street, and he wrote me a letter detailing all the above, plus he would have someone look in to it as it wasnt his remit!
I have to say i was very impressed, and it was a good while before elections, so he didn't appear just to be hankering after a vote like all the other pamphleters have been!!!!

I think a lot of Blokes would like to try that....some ladies too I don't doubt
If you live in an area where the MP or whoever has a 16000 majority you are less likely to get a visit he/she knows they will get back in anyway and supposes they must be doing a good job with such a large majority. Opposite obviously for a 100 majority they will all be round licking your ass night after night.
I cant not vote there is always at least one thing I have an issue with or one party that is threatening to cut something that will affect me or my family. Tax credits are one I am sure the Torys if they get in next time cant wait to axe those and blame it on the failing system. Failing system it isnt its people who dont work them out properly or lie and think they will get away with it but personally its money I would rather not loose plus all the free stuff that goes with it.

I haven't seen anyone door to door either (but then I am not here much!) but the amount of flyers that have come through the door has been shocking! Obviously 'green' policies are not a big concern confused
