Early this week I left hospital with my hand all strapped up.
Since then I have had more women going out of their way to talk to me. The opening gambit being 'What have you done to your hand?'. Ladies why is it?
Having open cuts I am only playing at home. Ladies why did you wait for me to get in this sad state before finding me twenty time more interesting?
Sympathy vote doesn't always work, I play a number of contact sports (rugby american football etc) and have ammased a fine collection of injuries over the years and its funny the reactions some of them get. If you Break or bruise your hands or face the instant assumption is that you've been fighting or you are some kind of thug. tThis leads to you feeling guilty as you see sweet old ladies and mums pushing babies crossing the road to avoid you. Not a nice experience as all you want to do is explain honestly I'm a nice guy. But some injuries defiantley inspire a greater interest from the opposite sex. i guess its just something to start a conversation about

It's coz we feel the need to mother you ? dunno

Can I have a comforter.
I feel really really sorry for mr winch (minor hijack!)
As I do a full contact Martial Art, Im constantly Black & Blue. Not too bad in the winter but now the weathers warming up and the clothes are coming off- some of the looks he gets when we're out are disgusting!
Im gonna have to get a t-shirt printed saying "No, he's not a wife beater- I'm a psyco!"

Curious as to which Martial Art you do ..... not many are now full contact through club insurance etc... Have done a fair bit in my time also... Mainly Wado Ryu and Jujutsu The club including myself were selected by the RAF to teach downed AWACS pilots self defence during the first Gulf War... RAF Waddington Near Lincoln..
Used to have a great time with all the summer courses and a few winter ones too lol.. Peoples faces when you run past them in a Gi on the moors when its Minus 5 with snow on the ground and then swim in an ice ridden river!!! Bruises and cuts were unavoidable as were the odd broken foot or hand..... Again people had you down as a thug if they didn't know you.
Have noticed a few posts on the subject lately.....

I do WTF Taekwondo......we do try to keep the contact "nice" in the club, but bruises etc are still inevitable if you're playing with the big boys!
It doesnt help that I do bruise !
Did my first tournament on sunday- which was "true" full contact, & ended up clashing legs- I now have a bruise which covers around 1/2 of my left leg, from the top of the knee to the foot! Its a real mother.... loon
My last grading was "interesting".....got a massive crack across the jaw by a 6'2 black tab, missed out on a broken nose by a couple of millimeteres- luckily it just skimmed the end- and to cap it all got a split lip!
The big problem is, im a naturally feminine type- so I have to trade off the Mini skirts with the training! surpriseduch: Having said that- its transformed my body so that I can wear mini skirts............so I guess I'll just get that T-shirt printed! lol

Oooerr Sounds painful now.....
I remember taking Brown most..... ended up peeing blood for 2 weeks from a split and bruised Kidney... had my Jaw Broken on Brown 3rd tag (last before Black) broke my foot in an open competition on a really tall guys shin lol....... Kicking was never my strongest point...... lol But always had a good surprise with a sweep or an elbow or two!!
I always ended up in the heavyweight as i am well built (over 200lbs) but most of them were well into there 6' plus a good few inch taller than little ole me lol! Ahhh Those were the days.......
Mmmm Maybe not tho. Had more injuries training than ever since or before!
Like you say though its good conditioning for sure and you never loose it... still train now but much much tamer...... thank God.
Good luck with it all....... Really hope you do well.

Its surprising how well people can launch themselves into a conversation about something unusual or new, how well they do it and how much they enjoy it.
So be gobsmacked mate, and have a hankie on standby for lip showers..................

Not sure what you mean there Bob...... I know one thing its a dicipline thats hard to take for some, so I admire anyone who can stick with it.. and to enter comps is nerve racking and quite scary, the injuries are real and the pay is crap..... well no pay eh!! Hats off to the girl.
Lip showers though....... still not sure biggrin :D

That's true and a good point. I tend to steer away from any phisical violence as I know I'll only get hurt.
Think i will stick to physical contact of the bedroom kind wink lol

Well said that man......
However, my very good friend, A 5'5 (who introduced me to martial arts) female,
took on a bunch of 4 (ratted) rowdy marines who grabbed her in a pub recently- she may not have had to beat the crap out of them all but when they realised she knew what she was doing and had the balls to take them on- and that they were not gonna get out unscathed- they backed off pretty rapidly!
Thats why I took this on, partly for the fitness, but mainly for the inner confidence that you give off after a while - the no im not a vulnerable girlie, dont even think about it kinda thing. Believe it or not, im a pacifist.!!

Have to disagree. I stood in front of a villain with a bat, he ran away, no contest. I did not even have to touch him. No I was not armed. It is all in the stance and the projection of confidence.
When I was at school in the 70's kung fu was all the rage. I remember one kid showing off with that " high kick" move. All very good until his "target" grabbed his foot. and led him round the school hopping on one leg !

There are the good and the bad in all things. It would appear that 'one kid' is bad but was he trained? 'Target' was better.
For myself I have never been so desperate as to make high kicks. They are normally uncontrolled and therefore open to being countered.
its the low kick technique for me every time...............
well between the knees to the balls..... anyway rolleyes
