Have a read of some recent threads and you will see that you aren't, and that the discussion got dull a long time ago. They are also in the cafe where they belong, not in LMU.

As FB has said, it's been discussed more times than the Profumo Affair and is rather dull now. AND.. just for your information the postcode system had fuck all to do with the Moderators. Direct your comments to those who are responsible and not at those who are trying their socks off to firefight the negative and unhelpful comments.
U can chose not to show your post code but where u live - lern how to use this sight and u will get more from it rolleyes
Blimey, some good (if badly spelt ) advice from a newbie smile

You can't please all of the people all of the time.
Personally, I like the idea,
now before I get dragged before the SH firing squad, I have not read the other threads, and I only said I like the idea ............. meaning only if it works.
We have found numerous 'interesting' folk apparently within 20 miles of us that we never even new existed. We haven't put the theory to the test yet, but if it works, and its reasonably accurate, then for people like us who live in sleepy swingless backwaters the whole postcode idea is a godsend. IMHO

The site has recently been bought by a company, who have been making a few changes. (not the moderators). This includes the postcode thing. As was mentioned above, it is upto you whether you use your postcode or your geographic location in your ad.
They should be introducing a search mechanism quite soon, which will make finding people in your area much easier.
There was quite a fuss at the beginning about the postcode thing, especially with regards to privacy, so perhaps it will be tweaked or changed in the near future.

Just as a matter of interest to those worried about post codes try the following,
You will be supprised at what you can find out >>>
Go into Google and type the first three letters/figures of your post code and have a read.
Next put in your own post code and you may be supprised at the results.
I have just found out that a plumber lives some 8 doors from me. lol I did not know that.
Try it and see.

Fred this post will just make people even more paranoid about the postcode thing. What's the point of doing that?
How many of us could say exactly what all our neighbours do anyway? We lived at our old house for 18+ years and I couldn't tell you much about any of them, because I mind my own business. So what if a plumber lives 8 doors away from you?
We actually did a postcode/area search for the house we're in now, just out of interest. It's so out of date, we couldn't possibly rely on any of the information anyway. According to a search done yesterday, there's no BB service available, but I'm here on an 8MB broadband connection. confused

Doesn't work with mine. A well-known electronics manufacturer has given a product of theirs a name which includes the first half of my postcode. The first local reference comes up on page 9!

You cannot please all of the people all of the time. wink

Damb & blast that manufacturer. lol
Judy
Thanks Judy kiss
As for the other two links I have seen them before and as Judy says they are very inacurate.

You lost me there Fred. The post looks like an inflammatory one, intended to get people riled all over again with regard to giving their postcode. Plus it doesn't work reliably for everyone so you can't use it as an example really, can you?

FB
My post starts with the words "Just as a matter of interest"
I fail to see where that is inflammatory and aimed to get people riled all over again.
Lets leave it to those that want to make further comment and judge.

It was inflammatory because there was no need to add that dimension in order to 'interest' people in what could be found out from a postcode. Just adds to the arguments of those who don't like the system, in my opinion. It's already been stated (several times) that people don't have to use their own postcode anyway, so the whole thing is a bit pointless.
Oh, and I was making comment and giving MY opinion or judgement.

I am one of the ones in favour of the post code system, but even I am not stupid or naive enough to put in my actual post code.
I actually entered a post code known to me, which is in fact about 10 miles down the road, and i calculate that into the equation when doing a postcode search. That way I get a rough idea of how far ppl r from me, without allowing those I consider to be 'wrong intentioned' getting too close.
As for all the furore about data collection / analysis / demographics thing, it leaves me pretty cold, for the following reasons.
Do you:
Use a credit card
Have digital and / or satellite TV (ppv or subscription, (does not apply to freeview or terrestrial))
Subscribe to any publication be it printed or data
Have your car serviced regularly by the same garage
Belong to any of the supermarket loyalty schemes
Register your mobile phone if using pay as you go, or subscribe to a mobile phone network
Own a vehicle registered in your name
Belong to your local library
Have membership or affiliation to a local or national organisation
Have a landline telephone
I could go on and on, but if you can answer yes to any of the above you can bet your sweet life that your details are plugged into several “demographic analysis” systems and probably other statistical environs to boot. So for me to enter a not entirely accurate post code on a swinging web site holds no demons for me.
We are all in the great database that seems to run our present world in one way or another, and though I hate it with a vengeance, the only way to avoid it these days seems to be to go and live in a cave somewhere and live off the land.
After slating the postcode system which most people think was rubbish !
Lets be honest it was rolleyes
I would like to heap praise on the guys at SH for the new search facility.
1 Word BRILLIANT wink
Keep up the good work & lets keep this the best site on the net.
well old chat neva dies i like the post codes and I put my real one in

Ah now then. Can it be very true or just, true? I don't know you know you know!
Oh anyway, on with thinking about the love the world will share in just 17 days Oh the jollity of it all. I can see it now our family all sat around an open fire roasting chestnuts and playing charades. Maybe with a glass of something special in our hands laughing and making merry. A carol or two to be sung along with as well, nice.
