Well as I am a football fan it has come to make the end of season decision. The best footballers of 2003/04.
You may select one manager, 11 first team, and five subs, here I go
Manager: Arsene Wenger: Great manager, lets hope he can win the title without losing.
Tim Howard: Good start to his Man U career, died down second half of season
Lauren: Been a great great consistent defender for the whole of the season.
Southgate:He maybe getting older but he is still performing well a great leader.
John Terry: With the amount of players Terry has shown some real potential, well done
Bridge: Been a great buy, he has made great stops and scored important goals.
Pires: Slow start but finishing very strong, and crap load of goals!
Patrick Vieira: Great midfielder defender, great performer
Lampard: Scored some amazing goals, one for the future
Ronaldo: Debatable, but I think he has worked hard this season
Henry: Need I say anything
Shearer: Best English striker this season, if they only had him for Euro 2004
subs:
Gerrard: great player, shame he is with the current Liverpool team (I am a liverpool sup)
Saha: Scored some great goals for Fulham, and some for Man U
Sol Campbel: Great defender
Anelka: Crap team but scoring consistently
Lehmann:because I can't think of another keeper thats performed
Sp do people agree or do I know how to pick a team!
Well, I'd go for Kiely ahead of both Lehmann & Howard, but it's hard to argue with most of these.
Interestingly: no Rooney, no Duff, no Owen, no RVN, no Roy Keane...
Anti Niemi Should be in any XI, a truly class keeper and would really add to the Arsenal team
Anelka can only score against who is up against him...crap team or not? Always puzzles me football fans? You get the chance and put it away regardless of the team you are in. I think football needs to return to the grass roots, and our national teams in ALL the British Isles will become better.... We need more first team nationals in the league, and even better if some could use BOTH feet...!
I have to say Lehmann is not a class keeper. I really think he was a panic buy who has not performed as well as most of the other keepers in the prem.
Another defender that has to be in contention. Woodgate. Despite injuries has put some real good quality performances throughout.
I like the 'Lampard one for the future' reference. I think him and Joe Cole are a couple of players that show imense amount of potential, but that is it. Potential that hasn't really been lived up to. Well in defence of Frank he has had an outstanding season but that may be due fighting for his place every game.

DEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!
My most treasured footballing memory is the penalty he saved at Watford that got Bury the point that took us into Division One in 1997. The man is an idol.
I don't think Michael Owen is any good, he has simply lost something.
I'm a Leeds fan.....I really can't add anything to this thread!

Maybe this time next season we could do a top team of division 1.
Kinky 'glug, glug' lizard
Manager: Wenger. There can be no arguement about this. He has built an Arsenal side that play the most attractive and exciting football I have ever sen.
Keeper: Neimi... And let's hope that he does end up at Arsenal as Lehman, whilst a good keeper, has such a temprament problem
Right Back: Lauren. He has improved as a defender. Have to remember that he started out as an attacking midfielder.
Centre Backs: Campbell and Terry. Campbell has just been immense. His all round game has improved. Just needs to improve distribution a bit more. Terry reads the game well. Strong, tackles well. Only slight problem is a little lack of pace. If Woodgate was not so injury prone would probably select him above Terry.
Left Back: Has to be Ashley Cole. Pace to burn and is the best attacking full back around. Has learnt to defend better and has concentrated on that side of his game.
Midfield:
Pires: The guy that runs like a duck. Drifts all over the pitch, has scored 19 goals so far. I have even seen him tackle once !!!
Lampard: The most improved Prem player. Sees passes now that were not available to him two years ago. Developed into a good goal scorer and has learnt to time his runs into the attacking areas (a bit like David Platt). Interestingly enough the Arsenal squad all voted for Lampard.
Viera: What can I say. This guy is the best midfielder of his type in the world.
Gerrard: I'd play Gerrard on the right. Just coz I have to have him in my team. He has carried Liverpool all season. Dynamic going forward, great defender. He will become as good as Viera. (wonder if he would like to come to Arsenal)
Shearer: Give him the service and he scores. Still the best English striker by some distance.
Henry: Simply the best !!!!
I`d have to disagree with Anelka and lehmann also owen- which guts me out as I think he is /was truly brilliant-
although you would have to say wenger as manager , I would Love to have added ranerii -untill his huge cock up last week- how can a guy with every one behind him make such a massive blunder mmmmmmm wonder if he meant to !!!
alan smith- who I cannot stand- for his determination.
tim howard .... or james -if only for his amazing penalty stop...
jamie redknapp ---- in case his gorgeous wife is looking in---
mmmm maybe I should go for Ian Walker in case his gorgeous wife is looking maybe I should shut up --- perhaps a new thread on their girlfriends , or how about the worst players from the premiership..
shame we cannot have a division one player for my beloved west ham !!!!!! ahh just have to wait till this time next year I guess
Fair play to rocky horror .. think your right about the grass roots thing...
maybe if we amalgamated england/scotland/wales/ireland we perhapd could have a great national side...
just pondering how come ireland have two national football teams but only one national rugby team ? confused:
alan shearer has to be up there but the best by a long long long way is thierry henry as a chelsea fan this hurts to write this , but for you people who also mention robert pires for arsenal there are two words to describe his all round play which is fuc#ing cheating .
he gets the ball runs a bit gets into trouble bumps into another player falls down rolls about and gets a free kick and amazingly jumps back to his feet like a miracle ive seen it with my own eyes at stamford bridge far too much hea is a cheat mad

who is this MACKELE then is he related to claude makelele who plays for chelsea then
When I was playing Championship Manager 4 last year I signed an aging Pires to Villa, but he did nothing for me and spent most of his time in the reserves. Well, he was like 36...
Henry & Shearer would be an awsome front two, no doubt about it, their games would really complement each other. Just as well we're never gonna see it in real life!
What about a Premiership's Most Disappointing XI? Let's see:
Manager:
Kevin Keegan.
Goalkeeper:
Lehmann. No explanation necessary.
Defense;
Konchesky. Another rising star who's flame seems to have guttered in the last season.
Mills - well, to be fair, he does have a league cup winner's medal now. But after doing well at the world cup two years ago, he seems to have dropped away.
Rio Ferdinand. YOU PLONKER!
Upson. What happened? This time last year he was being talked about as a rising star, but now he's more like a shooting star.
MIdfield:
McManaman- I struggle to think of one good thing he's done all season.
Makelele - He's not a battery, he's a battery hen.
Geremi - Lot of Chelsea players in this midfield, eh?
Joe Cole - Poor kid needs regular football like I need regular cups of tea.
Strikers:
Heskey - What did they pay for him, 10 million?
Jeffers - Add up this front two and you've got, what, 18 million pounds of strikers? And how many goals will they get you?

Thanks for correcting my spelling....It is as you suggest the Chelsea player who made falling down a fine art against Monaco... You must be proud of him...
Paul
it seems to be a part of the modern game if you think he is bad check out the arsenal duo of pires and vieria they could almost dive as good as klinsman was at diving when he played for that other north london team there name escapes me at the moment but there home ground is three point lane and there caretaker manager is a convicted kerb crawler

I agree that it certainly seems more prevelant these days. But you know who was probably the worst / best.... That man Francis Lee. Now he could dive !!!!
Paul

Come on Chaps, Wenger!!. Yes he does have one of the most exciting teams around..but how can he compare with Alex Ferguson. Yes all non Man United fans hate him, but his record speaks for itself. 8 championships in eleven years, two doubles, one treble, a European Cup, Cup winners Cup, and Super Cup , a World Club Champion and league cup! He has also built three teams. His 93/94 side accumulating a record number of points, his 2000/2001 team accumulating a record for premiership goals. He has defended the championship on numerous occasions, and had three wins in a row. He started all of this from a mid table team of ageing stars in the mid eigties and hardly any academy to almost single handedly building the best academy , stadium and training facilities in the world....absolutely no competition.
Wenger inherited a class team from George Grahame (via bruce Rioch) and has been able to bring in players from his french contacts (Rioch bought Bergcamp),
No Van Nistelrooy. At Christmas the debate was raging over who was the better player, he or Henri. Whereas I agree Henri is the best, Van Nistlerooy faded due to injury But Nistelrooy would be in any side! Shearer is a top striker in the league he is in..that league being the 15 teams below Arsenal, United and Chelsea. But he is no longer world class!
Also anyone who knows football would have Paul Scholes in the side.
This is all fascinating stuff, but how many of them can play whilst having vibrating eggs
cunningly inserted (I dare not mention where) whilst waiting for the manager to fire off the remote at an inopportune moment.
Funny how none of the 'Ladies' have added to this thread ! (apart from me that is)

Well, you are correct in that Fergie has an incredible record - and I don't think that any sane football fan would deny him that. One thing that I would like to point out is that Wenger has won over just 7 seasons - whilst changing the whole way that Arsenal play. It is a pleasure to watch them perform - just as it was a pleasure to watch Man United perform at the highest level.
I'd also agree about Paul Scholes, although I could not quite find room for him. Pires, Henry and Viera when asked a couple of years ago rated Scholes the best Englisgh player in the Prem.
Paul
I am not denying that Fergie is a bad manager, but you have to give Wenger credit for going unbeaten so far this season. I do not know what the hell as happened to United but as a Liverpool supporter I am glad. (Man U 0-1Liverpool).
Maybe he has lost his touch and misses Beckhams delivery!!
