Been wondering whether or not to post this, my reg is shown below...
Mod edit: have removed this picture. We don't want people's registration shown on this site. If it was a joke one then... rolleyes
I was thinking of buying my car a private plate for its 15th birthday next year.. is that sad? I would rather have something that said lotus or elan or perhaps even M100 (Lotus design name for the car) than anything telling people my name. I agree with the sentiment about not making your car too obvious so people notice you when you are somewhere you shouldn't be, but i think its already too late for that. Only seen three other elans on the road, and none of them were green.
or in short, do it :-)
Never did understand in the uk why it cost so much to buy a private plate???? confused
over here, you just pay equivalent of 20 quid, and make your own of entirely numbers, or 2 letter & 4 numbers or finally 2 letters & 3 numbers.
easy see. :P
you put in a list of your favourite 6, and they check from top to bottom which are available.
Tired JB 007 but was taken evil
Its a fact that cars depreciate as soon as you buy them. Its also a fact that personal registrations never depreciate.
So, looking at it from another angle, even if you dont display it on your car you are making money.

One of my mates sold an old car about 5 years ago for the reg on it was 111UFC,
I have a private plate my wife bought me for my birthday one letter 400 and then my initials

ejit, he could have made a fortune if he'd advertised it outside a leeds united game.
I think it would have been a lot safer out side Old Trafford, the 111 looked like a M.
DB 9 is owned by Aston Martin, and used by the dealership in Birmingham on its demo cars.
So the "posh bloke" was probably just one of the cleaners!
PS: Anybody want 3409 MG?

probably could have made even more, seem to be an attraction of more money than sense at that place

They couldn't before they went tits up, so what chance now. A local dealer is selling rover/mg's with huge discounts at the moment, so chance of a bargain if you want to risk it

Don't think it does, it's one of the more reliable Lotuses(es) I think. Plus, it's apparently one of the best handling front-wheel drive cars you can get.
Just found an S2 Elan on eBay with an M100 plate...........oh I will have one one day sad

I'll happily take anyone out for a spin in it, so perhaps if you are in birmingham (munch next year?) or i'm down your way, we could arrange that.

well my last service was £1300 if that gives you any clues, and it will flatten a battery in 4 days if its left alone. and handling is bloody fantastic, just have to invest in decent rubber to keep it stuck to the road.
Equi-Princess if you fancy the reg number, then go for it! You only live once (as far as I know) and you cant take the money with you, so treat yourself!
We bought one a few years ago, it means nothing to anyone but us (starts with the letter of the day we were married, then the date followed by our real life name initials). A couple of years after we had bought it, I decided I wanted one for my car and after searching on the DLVA website, we found a 'mathcing' plate. So one of us have A14 XXX and the other has A15 XXX. We have been told that as a matching pair, they are worth quite a bit more than what we paid for them. So if the petrol prices keep rising, we can sell the plates and afoard to fill the cars up lol
Only down side is that when we go 'dogging' people recognise the reg numbers even after we changed the car
Go for it equi hun, as most have said ya can't take ya money with ya when you leave us for the big dressage in the sky lol.........
just been having a meander round a few private plate sites and have found P15SED for sale........ anyone think I should buy it for naughtynymphos lmao
just found 3 SH for £34,000
Just found 69 SH as sold for in 1993
Well I loved the one on a car with Pooh bear on the back with the reg HUG4 P00
Really appealed to me smile

Random pic......Took this with my cam phone a couple of months ago....tickled me...

OH MY GOD !!!
I nearly pissed my pants when I saw this, I went on 1 date with this guy about 2 years ago. I didn't go out on a second date with him for very comical reasons which I won't go into to the (not so) innocent !!!!
Talk about a small world !!!

You lost an "m" from your image tag..... there ya go!
arh you bitch !!!
so, what do I have to do to get my street cred back!!!
biggrin
Got a farrier round here wiv the reg plate NAG 1
From past experience the less numbers and letters are in the reg, the more they cost, for instance A1 would cost about £400,000 where as something like D14NNE (spells Dianne) would cost about £500.
If it was availible I'd have MOX3Y as my nickname is Moxey, or A14 RBT
Please can we start exercising a bit of common sense with what we post on threads like this folks. Even though these kinds of threads are funny, let's just think about it for a minute or two. We simply cannot allow people to post phone numbers of random people, even in funny pictures. The policy on the site is that no phone numbers are published. This policy was brought in after complaints about people receiving odd phone calls from people posting their number on the site without their consent. Though the farrier guy might like the publicity of being posted on the best swingers site in town wink , we have to respect his privacy, and we have to stick by the site policy across the board.
Also, reg numbers..... again..... let's just be careful about repecting people's privacy, and not post them here!
Ta.

Ello!
I put a plate on mine simply to disguise the age of the car - the car itself's really nice and doesn't look as old as it is!
Went for one of the £250 ones...think I used a site caled or something like it - its just a number and my initials..
As someone else said, life's too short to worry bout what other people think.....if you got it, flaunt it, and in true Andy style... "AVE IT!!!" biggrin

Its nothing big-headed..... not even a horsey type of plate.... its just my name..... lol
equi-princess xxx

You could just let your car get dirty.... and then write your name in the muck on the back?
( and then spend the £250 on marmite)
Let it get dirty???????? i drive it and then wash it..... i dont leave it dirty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a more serious note...... there isn't a shortage of marmite at the moment so although the cupboard is well-stocked... i see no reason to spend my reg. plate money on marmite..... lol
Oh.... and i love the picture of the fox in the sights at the bottom of your page.....

Its an MGF........ does that make it the 'right' car???????????

An MGB GT in British Racing Green would be far better!
D xxx
I've had a 1966 MGB Roadster, Old English White, and a 1977 MG Midget, in BRG.... i wanted to recapture the fun of the MG but combine it with the handling and comfort of a modern car.... hence the MGF. For those who don't consider the MGF/MGTF to be a proper MG.................... it was designed purely as a sports car, with over 100 proto-types before the designers chose the final model. Its not just a Rover with an MG badge tacked onto the front!!!
It has a problem with the head gaskets admittedly... but the team at Rover/MG did overcome this by changing the bolts in the new head gasket kit for metal ones... then there's no problem... the cam belt does need changing earlier than in your standard car... but if i wanted a standard car... i wouldn't have bought an MG. It has road handling to die for..... a mid series engine, and the twin exhausts just purr along.... they are an extremely good buy at the moment... the replacement parts are cheap.... and its just soooo much fun..... lol, plus for Winter driving there's the hard-top.. and for Summer the top down....
Don't dismiss the MG until you've actually driven one............

lol Kit will be on later to spout the virtues of the MG, I'm more than happy with any old bone rattler that will get me from a to b.
However, back to the original subject, I bought Kit a personalised plate as a present which basically has the real life equivalent of K 4 Kit
She says every time she sees it, or writes it she says to herself "Kat loves Kit"
Nobody seeing it would know what it meant, , and it does not even look like a personalised plate. But WE know what it means, and it gives us both a warm snuggly feeling to have it.

oooohhh.... that is so sweet.........
I hadn't considered that a number plate could give a warm snuggly feeling...... but that is really really nice.....

p.s. a discussion on the virtues of MG would be welcome.... lol
I apologise for posting the pic. I certainly didn't do it with any intention of causing either SH or the owner of the vehicle any embarrassment.
<feeling suitably chatised redface surprisedops:>
@ Velvet Lips.....taken on the way to work one morning....small world...yes smile
i remember when ppl used to think private plates were a bit snobby, but i think those days are over smile
So go for it......besides they're a good investment, my brother bought a plate in 1999 and by 2003 it had almost doubled in value :)
