Problems with laptop chargers. Can anyone advise?

I've used my mains charger for about 15 months now, and my "in vehicle" charger for about 1 year.
Gradually. over the last couple of months, I've had to start wiggling the cord where it plugs into my laptop because it stops charging.
Is this a problem with broken wires in the charger leads due to being twisted in different directions over a period of time, or is it wear in the socket of the laptop due to frequent plugging and unplugging?
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
ES
Typically it is the connector that GOES into the laptop...
However, without more information i.e. Type and model of laptop, cant really tell you..
It's a Compaq Presario 2100
For the last hour it hasn't been charging (I'm in my truck at the mo so on vehicle charger).
I've just squeezed the metal bit on the end of the lead that plugs in to the laptop, so that the two metal bits inside the end of the lead will make a slightly tighter fit, and hey presto! It's now charging!
Did I just diagnose and operate successfully?
WooooooooooHooooooooo! Am I back to normal methinks? :P

Usually the connectors. Take a very fine screwdriver and bend them inwards carefully
I think I cracked it.
Now why didn't I think of that before? redface surprisedops:
Thanks for your views on the prob. kiss
I'll be back if this is just a temporary aberration and the problem starts again! Yep.

I don't want to put the sh*tters up you ES (Or anything else before you ask) but be careful with laptop chargers. One of mine blew up in my hand when I plugged it in. Hand went black for a month.
I'm sure yours is ok though. lol +
I wonder if he thinks twice before putting it in two far this time. :snigger:
You're lucky it appears to be your leads smile . The bad news is.........
eventually your laptop battery will just not want to hold a charge  and even if you have had it plugged in for two days the bloody thing only lasts 10 minutes running on the battery and hasn't got the power to serve the modem mad
(good job I only need the laptop for use in hotels and not laybys) lol

Ok ok, fair enough, but those who know me also know that I only put "it" into female sockets!
What I do with male "jacks" is another story! redface surprisedops:
This started out as a serious "help" thread, but never mind!
Oh well, I should have known better! wink
It started out as a help thread but then you fixed it so now its just a thread......

I'm not worried about using the battery Polo as I've only needed the fecking thing when the charger wouldn't do the biz. But thanks all the same kiss
Think It's sorted now folks.
Can a mod put this to bed now? Unless, that is, anyone has other ideas? dunno

Trying to think of a funny comment putting lap top and bed all in the same sentance. Failing miserabley at the moment. redface
Li-Ion batteries need a full discharge and I feel sure that is the battery in your puter.
Leave the puter on till the battery is fully discharged then give it a recharge. that might sort it out.
Thats the best I can do
Fred
I thought I was sorted but it seems not.
When I first posted I'd run the battery down to 43%. The I got the charger to work after pinching the end.
Now the battery's fully charged again and the charger's not working again.
Is it the battery that's the problem?
Help! (I'm being serious again!!)
dunno :dunno:
my battery in my laptop won't hold its charge, so I have to run it off the main charger all the time
Sorry I'm no use ES
The memory effect Fred?
I'll try it and see what happens.
Thanks to all. When the battery pulls the plug on me I'm gone! lol
probably a combination of poor connection caused by the socket in the laptop and possable wires in the jack
Batteries are easily avalible from puter stores or if you can wait buy from ebay cheap ones from hongkong are ok as long as grad a or a + but take weeks to get to you
should not be to difficult to sort out if your in herts or essex give us a shout and ill take a look see
