As far as the original post goes, yes it's a good idea in principal but sadly it's unworkable due to the fact that the proposed system is wide open to abuse. In an ideal world people would respect the fact that it's not the done thing to persuade people that what their profile says and what in thier minds they decide is not really what they are looking for. But this is true life we have to face facts and some people do not respect others wishes and as kate said from her point of view (yes I'm with her and set next to her
) from a single fems point it's just not do'able (for want of a better word) and as I stated is unworkable without stringent policeing :? :?

...however you do raise a topic that I ain't happy about and that poshkate touched on and thats the fact that the ability to hide through our forum settings is a complete waste of space if folk can still see if we are on line through the profile. I cant see if there is an option to hide that from other users, but there should be. If there is perhaps someone can point me to it and if there isnt there should be, when I tick the 'hide' button thats what I expect to happen.

many peeps use SH in many different ways... bandwidth aside what if your 'prey' is not only in a chat room but actively posting in the forum & with another window open, in their mailbox, amending photo's, uploading a video... you get my drift?
personally I cant see the point of this option...
If you want to pm someone just do it.

we got a stalker off here who knows us from 5 years ago..........never done nothing with him but he knows where we shop what car we got.....
keeps telling us he wants to be our friend.......says he doesn`t want to come up to us in the shop cos it might be embarrasing in front of our kids..................told him no thank you and put him on ignore ....but it`s worrying just the same.....

LOL Kate - that is just how I read it.
I would actually prefer an option to remove my name from appearing as online rather than directing someone to exactly where I am (unless I have them on my friends list!).
Now boys (4Ts) THAT would be a handy option.
Only let those members who you have on your friends list to be able to see where you are!

I never noticed this when I originally posted has I was preocupied but without people acuseing me of running bad blood, this is also a gripe of mine and quite frankly makes the whole thing pointless, you can hide your online status from the 100 or less people browsing the forum but no the 3000 odd people using the entire site

as for the stalker button........i think the idea of restricting it to ur friends is a good idea.......although i have to admit the last online function is a good idea as it lets u know whos accounts have been active recsently............
