We all know prostitution has a seedy side where women get taken advantage of, and is often in the hands of organized drug gangs who fund al Qaeda(*said sarcastic!*)
But what about the basic idea of swapping money for sex?lets just say , no one gets hurt and everyone is happy.
So what does the very open minded and liberated swinging community have against the basic idea of prostitution? Or would it help if I bring into focus an example of a high class escort?say Hannah Baxter that one Billie piper played so well on tv?
I think that prohibiting things makes them likely to become the domain of career criminals.
I have no problem with the concept or practice of prostitution provided the workers are protected.
So make it strictly legal and above board and regulate it.
Its beginning to look like we have a new "Brucie' in our midst..................
Prostitution was decriminalised in New Zealand in 2003 ... and we have not gone to hell in a hand basket. There are still problems and some local politicians in particular do not want to accept it, but the general consensus is that it has made things safer for working girls and it has not lead to an increase in prostitution.
well let's just apply some of the ideas about prostitution to swinging.
Would you want swinging to be subject to a set of legislation and procedures which you know don't already exist and might become difficult to implement.
Would you like someone from the 'ministry' attending the Wigan Munch, testing, examining advising etc whilst you were going about your activities.
well just imagine it for a moment. Its not easy to think you could happily proceed with something like that. But it seems to be the thing people offer as an answer to the question of prostitution.
So the public seems to have the expectation that their sex workers be clean, legal and regulated etc. but what regulates them that expect that?
Also most of the ways of using sex workers are already legal.
The point is, you can't be too intrusive in this. because you are getting in between a private and personal thing between people. and that then interferes with the act of sex as much as prostitution.
The UK government should take a leaf out the Germans' book and legalise prostitution.
The Girls are taxed, insured and are made to have regular health screening and are educated in safe sex techniques.
Whilst I don't agree with prostitution, at least doing it this way reduces pimping, criminal involvement and exploitation of the women who choose to make a living from providing sex.
I am also led to believe that there is anecdotal evidence that sex crimes are reduced in countries with legalised prostitution and those girls that do engage, are more likely to report an offence of abuse against them to the authorities.
Is it possible that society could be better off if prostitution were legalised?
(Sorry if my post appears to be disjointed, but I've got a MASSIVE hangover.)

I guess that depends on your idea of fun.
The older I get the less I like the idea of state controlled and/or legalised prostitution. I am interested though in the Swedish system of criminalising the buying of sex services rather than criminalising the sex worker although there is merit in making it that the coworker is committing a civil offence
Unfortunately that is the visible evidence in the UK, in some cases. But at the same time represents a sense of freedom in that, dreadful though such women are, they feel entitled to street walk. or they are being pimped out by a crook.
Whereas something is keeping the women off the streets in the Federalist Euro states. which we may see as being legit and all above board and effectively government controlled etc. But might simply mean that criminals have been given the legitimacy to run their business.
So either situation may cause some unease if you consider them for what they are. All that has to be done is change a few laws and the crook is a businessman. he still continues to use his way of working.
The idea of forcing people to sell themselves when they don't wan't to is abhorrent to me. This, as we know, does go on and those responsible for this practice should be severly dealt with.
However, I am sure that some girls actually enjoy it, and can still maintain a family life. Like in many proffesions, there is a wide spectrum.
And before I am ripped to pieces, there are a number of support groups throughout the country for working girls and I know some of the people working in those support groups. The "high end" girls, well paid happy who love their jobs, don't tend to use them. It also takes a certain state of mind to be able to cope with the work, and many people drift in and out of it as their lives change.
I do feel sorry for the girls who try to move out of it and find it difficult, becuase of prejudice, to move on to other things whether they were low end or high end. I believe that there was one girl on X Factor? (don't watch the show but have seen the headlines). For goodness sake society, don't be so quick to judge!!!
