I am not sure what people need from sex work becoming 'legalised'. It seems like it is a plea to be 'allowed' to do it, without fear, prejudice, guilt,
worry etc. And that it would be convenient if those things were removed.
But one is already allowed to see sex workers. Albeit under some disguise and hypocrisy. And perhaps that is what people dislike the most about it. In some ways its very similar to joining any adult group. One takes that first big step into a new world, and then
begins to live with it, often secretively. Whether it be sexual, masonic rituals or evening classes.
But would it become any easier to do so? Can you imagine being any more at ease if it were to become commonplace? Is it any easier, these days than in byegone eras; to attempt to chat someone up for a sexual encounter at the local disco? Something is usually missing if its not sex; its emotional fulfillment.
So what needs to be legalised? If there are sufficient rules for those things which are
considered illegal, then we can feel at liberty to partake in those things which are not illegal.
I read some of the net reports on this.
I tend to follow the idea that she simply saw the potential opportunites at this point.
There are earnings from literature and she has to identify herself in order to lay claim to any copyright.
If the boyfriend was about to expose her she had no alternative. It neatly cuts out any fooling about by him.
She can easily 'redesign' her new career into a 'celebrity'. Already well under way due to the press.
She can give up being a hooker.
Someone will marry her, if she wants the happy ever after. She has everything to gain.
i am not sure she will have a career in the sciences now though. So i can't see her moving back into that field of work, or the establishment welcoming her.
So I don't think it was a statement for advocating being a hooker. it was a clever move into something bigger.
Yes I think there would be no problem retaining her employment as she has not done something illegal etc.
Some doors may close; others may open.
Also there has to be a limit to what people can expect from notoriety and celebrity. Once that's over normal life has to go on. So again she has probably weighed that up quite accurately.
I think there's a difference in holding onto a job and having a flourishing career; particularly if you have been through something like this. So its possible she may be able to do either, if that's what she wants.
Remember Marietta Higgs? and all that child abuse stuff which she instigated and had a big hand in doing. She's still employed in the same hospital, in her original role as a doctor; but her job hasn't changed much and neither has she gone on to have a great career.
That's good to know.
I'm impressed that if she has weighed up the situation and made decisions accordingly, that she does well from it all. I couldn't see it at first, but it does sound more like a well judged choice.
Well perhaps its the escorting which will suffer the most. as she is more likely to be recognised punters may stay away.
But do you think its likely that she could continue doing both professions, as she did before; now with such recognition. Its potentially possible, but just how well would it work?
