Anyone else out there watch this soap, the BBC's flagship? confused

:
Great drama last night, they seem to be very keen to portray the "heavy" characters of the East End of yesteryear - the days of the Krays and the Richardsons. Any alternative views or comments would be welcome.

I love it too. Ive watched it from the very beginning and its like an addiction now redface

Although Joe thinks that soaps are a government plot to make us forget about the misery from our own lives :shock: lol

I watched it and wondered how Honey went in to labour and gave birth in the space of about 10 mins! now left wondering if the child is ok..

Love Eastenders, yes its miserable and someone always has drama going on but would you want to watch a soap where nothing ever went wrong? Would be boring viewing..... And its comforting to know someones having a worse time than you are!!
Though its had its share of sexy blokes.....Grant Mitchell...who could ever forget the sex scene in the kitchen? And i think i would even give Minty a quick go.... redface

Everybody lives and works in the same small London square.
Nobody commutes to work elsewhere.
They pay for breakfast and cups of tea in a cafe a few doors away from their houses.
They always go on about being skint but live in houses worth millions on the London property market.
If they have a party or a wedding reception at the local pub it always ends in disaster.
Relatives who they never mention suddenly come to stay for a while and end up living there for good.
Some of the charecters are woefully out of step with the modern world on a "'ere wots one of these noo fangulled email fingys?" kind of level.
Not all of those soap sins are unique to 'Eastenders' and yes, despite the above I am daft enough to watch it lol!

The biggest pile of shit on TV and totally unrealistic of life in the East end...remember this show is written by middleclass plebs with no real experience of proper real east end life...how they get away with their awful scripts is beyond me!

I agree with it being a pile of dung. But I don't think it’s supposed to be like the real East end. It exists to entertain us. (Not very well in my opinion) Reality has very little to do with it. As long as they don't have an it was all a dream story line, they can get away with most things like dirty den back from the dead ECT.
Now Top Gear that is entertainment lol

I'm a real proper EastEnder.
Over the years I have watched and not watched and then watched Eastenders. I go thru stages every now and then I get pulled in by a particular actor or storyline, but in the main I'm not an avid fan.
It's nothing like the real East End of London. I think they are trying to make it the way it was in the 50s and 60s with regard to the way they portray the community spirit and the housing etc etc, but obviously time has moved on and we have washing machines now and don't use the laundrette very much. We tend to have our tea and coffee at home rather than the cafe and we're not all lucky enough to work in the same square as we live.
Sometimes it's funny sometimes it's sad sometimes I just can't be arsed with it, but thats just me. There is usually something for everyone on TV. If someone else likes it thats fine and if they don't thats fine too. cool

I like Eastenders and yes i admit it... im addicted. If something comes up, i wouldnt not go just because its on, but if im in then i watch it.
For me, its just a form of escapism, RL is so hard at times and this just takes my mind off my worries etc.
Thought it was good last night albeit a bit violent for pre-watershed...

I saw it last night and I got quite emotional actually, it was a bit too much I think for that time of night, BUT it is only TV at the end of the day, for me seeing any people being hurt or attacked, TV or otherwise will always pull on my heart.

Thanks for posting - I agree with Joe, further, I think that unlike ITV, the BBC puts over political views in the Eastenders. For example, I feel it shows white and black people getting on better than they do in real life.

I can understand it as a form of escapism I suppose. I like watching Dr Who as much as my kids do, I like reading and watching fantasy and sci fi, I loved red dwarf.
I don't mind watching and reading things that I have to suspend my disbelief but Eastenders is a step to far wink

Bad jokes aside my lady thinks Eastenders is not as good as it used to be. She thinks this is because it went from being a twice a week show (god I wish they would do that again) to a 3, 4 then for a while I think 5 nights a week show. I can understand the beeb doing this it’s a lot easier to make, gets ratings and is cheaper to produce than say wild life one. But the extra output of production must inevitably have an effect on quality. (Not there was ever a lot in their first place lol

)
I don't actually dislike Eastenders as such it just bores me.
It’s funny I don't think I have ever been a regular watcher of any soap. When I was a kid till now, the theme tune to coronation street has a strange, god help me type of effect on me.

i found it quite emotional last night but more the end bit the gangster stil was all abit unreal to me but the emotions by honey and billy and jase at the end were pretty good acting i thought and prob very hard scenes to play

Can't be arsed to read all the other posts cos you know what, I'm kind of sick of thread bashing. It quite clearly says "Eastenders" in the thread title and the OP is specific to the recent plot so why do non-watchers feel the need to tell us they hate it and never watch it, etc etc?
The same thing happens on Big Brother threads.
No one's asking you what you think of the show, full stop, it's about the current storyline and since you don't watch it, I'd suggest you actually don't have anything to say do you?
