It may only be us, but WHY bother with the "I'd like to know more" messages....
We think that it should have "Because I am so Thick" added to the end.
Any automated type phone calls or emails are ignored why is this site different?
If you are unabe to compose a message to the effect that you would like to meet, you are not going to get much luck on here, certainly not with us!!!
Plus wish I had a pound for everytime we are told of the "Broken" webcam.
You can get a webcam for less than £5 at a well know grocery giant which is also open 24hrs most of the week..... Sorry what was your excuse again???
Rant over!!!!
My next door neighbour just confronted me about items missing from her washing line. I nearly shit her pants....
You can set it so an automatic response gets sent out to "Winks"
My account > Settings > Wink.
Then no more Winks come through to your Mailbox.
Isn't it a shame we cannot customise the automated reply a little

lol They do sound daft! But I don't mind them so much, I like having a random browse (though it does piss me off when winker's profile is next to emtpy). Then again, I don't get that many whereas you must be burried under them! Just see it like people waving at you in the street - you are a minor celebrity cool

Trevaunance customise your wink and wink back at them ;)

Just in case you missed the friend request they also sent! lol
in SOME people's defense..often they use the wink as the equivalent of the ol'facebook poke.. personally took me a while to realise that sending a wink wasn't just a "virtual gesture" but actually a narrative!

There is always a work around lol
We answer all types of message, even winks, just to be polite.
Not sure if it is the same on here, but on some sites you cannot send more than a wink if not full members, so someone may just be testing to see how the site works for them before joining, try before you buy so to speak.
We eventually met up with a couple who winked at us a couple of years back and they are still friends, who we meet with from time to time, so there can be a big plus side to winks as well as the minus we hear about on a regular basis.
I've always used winks as a kind of bookmark.....I've obviously seen something in a profile, or an ad, which grabbed my attention and caused me to think I might like to have another look or respond in some way. I should point out that I've actually customised said wink to actually state this and to apologise if it offends.
It has been pointed out to me, recently, that there are better options.
Its so funny how on this site winks are generally frowned upon but on others much more widely accepted as a "take a look at us and message/wink back if interested"

I hate them no matter which site they're on .... laziness (in my opinion)
so why is a poke on facebook more acceptable than a wink on here? Haven't used wink, and do agree it's lazyness but then the idea that it can be used as a bookmark makes sense. Isn't it nice to see another persons view, as there was me thinking that I'm always right. Bugger, there's always a first time for everything. And are they tweekys legs? See, there's always something worth looking at.
I find the pokes on Facebook and winks and god knows what else on other sites all equally pointless. If there is no way to disable them, they just get ignored.
I understand it to be a quick and easy way to attempt to draw attention to yourself but then what? Ffs ... if you've got summat to say, just say it. Stop pissing about.
It seems a lot of people just don't know or can't be arsed to communicate properly anymore. Bad times.

Just delete your facebook. I did and definitely don't regret it. People I want to keep in touch with I can just as easily without it, but I don't have to deal with people I don't and all the spam/games/pokes/extra crap that comes with it.
I don't mind getting winks..I sometimes look at it as a "reverse search".. Just another way for me to have a nosey at what profiles are out there in the land of SH without having to do a Search in the tab above. I may delete them and not respond, but I will look at the profile as curiosity always gets the better of me ;)
Ofcourse sometimes I think "WOW, hottie!! glad he winked, otherwise I would have missed him!"
And here's to all you peeps on this thread:
*WINK WINK*
hehe xx

Is a wink the same as a wank loon

That's my good Irish upbringing, I knew I was doing something wrong....

Think I'll have a little rant of my own
People send out winks for a variety of reasons, mine has been that in the past that I read a persons/couples profile have written a detailed message of introduction taken the time to ensure that I am what their profile or ad says they are looking for only to have no response whatsoever. Nada, zilch, nought, nil. Not even a thanks but no thanks. In short a total waste of fecking time and effort.
When that happens regularly it is to put it politley annoying. Life is too short to spend hours trying to write original, clever, witty and hopefully erotic messages to people who lack even the basic civility to reply. Due to the numbers on here (ie vast over supply of single men) ladies and couples can afford the arrogance of this lack of manners.
I've only ever sent out 1 wink and that was a mistake. I was meant to send a PM but slipped and hit the wrong tab

Unfortunately there's absolutely nothing you can do about that. Like you say, there is far more supply than demand for single blokes on here so competition is high, and the time and effort to write a reply like that is the "first round." The witty/clever part of the message will always depend on who you're talking to, but you could always write a custom wink or perhaps just keep a .txt file with a paragraph about yourself that you could copy and paste into each first message to save you retyping the same thing over and over.
