Hi, just wanted to say the site looks great now (although it was great before!). I logged on the other day after a week or so, and what a surprise! I seem to have lost my ad, so I've just created a new one from my homepage. Hope this is ok. It seems much easier to contact other people with the new set up.
Festive greetings to all!

Does it ??? Enlighten me I need all the help I can get. I used to get a fair amount of traffic from my ads (yes I have more than one) but since the big change the traffic has more or less dried up. Something isn't working for me so please share your knowledge.
Judy

Totally agree Judy, think its a lot worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They killed it!!!!!!!!!!!
Over all the new look works for me (only one sign in for the whole site a major improvement) but a few points relating to the chatroom:
1) it no longer works in MIRC
2) The member list is unsorted and unsortable
3) The list of member profiles (and photos and vids) extend below the visible area if lots of people signed in so half the profiles etc are inaccessible.
4) My screen resolution is such that the flash chat room is very small in the middle of the screen - would be much much nicer if it scaled so that it is always, say, 90% the window width.
5) I'm using IE 5 (yeah I know old but plenty of people still use this) and the site doesn;t always look very pretty..the menu buttons for instance (Photo Ads, Voice Ads etc) now extend below the blue bar and look very blocky and ugly.
Anyway overall this is a big step forward so well done all concerned!

hi Judy -
The problems I raised are all serious problems which need to be addressed but the old site also had serious problems most of which have been dealt with in the new look. Maybe we all just got used to living with the old quirks!
any way here's hoping SH continues to go fro strngth to strength

Think Judy means you listed five bad points but could only think of one good point about the site!
Judy do I get a spanking for speaking on your behalf
NWC ahhhhhh I see (sorry serves me right for not being awake...)
The reason I posted 1 for and 5 against was for the same reason that when you take your car to the garage you don't spend 10 minutes listing all the things that are working just fine! (Well, I don't anyway!)
But I've been away for a few days and reading all the more recent posts it looks as though everything is gradually being sorted out (although none of my points about the chatroom have reached the top of the action list).
PS does anyone know how much Mark was paid for this site? He did a great job and deserved a nice wad of cash but I'm worried cos buying the site suggests that the people doing the paying will be expecting a profit (honestly, some people eh?!) which suggests paid membership...goes against the grain after all this time!

I doubt the format of the chatroom will change much to be honest..
I REALLY doubt that an IRC room will be made available again..

Paid membership is already with us......
If you were a member BEFORE the site was sold then you automatically get 12 months premium membership free..
For that to continue there are certain criteria that have to be met and these criteria will be discussed in the near future with the mods and then proposals put to the general population...

Well, that is certainly a revelation to me. i.e. that there will be certain conditions that will have to be met to ensure continued 'free' premium membership ... and pray, please tell us what the criteria is....??? confused .. and, will the members be asked for their views (or to vote) on the said criteria. Oh well, Christmas might be over but SH commercialmas is certainly upon us. rolleyes

Yes, Judy, as I've said earlier, fair enough... I realise what site changes have been made, I just asking a (silly) question as it was the first I had seen about potential charging for existing members ok? wink

I cant believe how some people just walk with their heads up their ..... armpits and are soooooo uninformed about the site they continually post on. All that is required is to actually read the site changes which are there for all to see and would in fact take less time than grilling people on the forum. I'm sorry but people like that deserve to be charged......Double ! and then some. rolleyes
Jude

Had a good day today Judy? wink smile
Judy does have a point, issues regarding the changes and charging have been discussed to death in the last few weeks....... OK there are some new things that people like, but there is an awful lot that people don't like, and that still need to be sorted. Things that are taken for granted on phpBB forums for example gif images and apostrophes in user names  no longer work The chat room is not without it's problems, and the only people to benefit from the unified login are new users. The rest of us now have "orphaned ads" unless we created a new account just to retrieve our ads. All in all there are a fair few regular users of the site who are disappointed with the changes.

My biggest disappointment is the loss of wit and humour in so many of the threads. The intial excitement and enjoyment when I first joined all seems to have been lost along with many of the posters.
Ithas also sold its soul, I dont blame Mark for selling out...most people would.
But mayb it will manage to stay a cut above the rest...

I know what mean and I understand Judy's frustrations - I'm beginning to lose my patience.
I'm trying to be helpful, but at the moment I feel like a stuck record jumping between saying:
Yes the sites been sold
Yes we know the postcodes are a pain
Yes we know the chatroom's got no chat

I did try to be proactive yesterday and went on a mission to bumb every fun and interesting thread I could think of, but within a couple of hours we were back to the same.
Oh well - I did try rolleyes
