Hillwalking.

Very sad and untimely. One of the few in a position of power with a detectable backbone at the time of TB's Iraq war preparations. (IMO). I was hoping he'd be back once Blair goes.
What a shock - can't say I liked him, or his politics, but still respected his priciples
Heard it on the Channel 4 news. I'm not a fan of the "New" Labour party, but Robin Cook seemed to have integrity and was absolutely spot on in his opposition to the Iraq war...
... the LP have lost a decent fella there..
Please- let's not make this thread another war zone. Whether we agreed with his views or politics or attitude matters not, he had a fantastic mind which all sides of the political spectrum will be greyer and duller because of his death.

Sad day. Thinking about how many politician names I can recall to hand in any of the parties he is always one who comes to mind. Many are faceless people these days who 'go with the flow'. Integrity is something of real value to be remembered for.
Sad news. I'm very cynical about politicians having met and dealt with far too many of them, I find most self absorbed and lacking in principles.
The political world and indeed the Labour Party have lost someone with principle and and the courage to stand by his convictions. A definate loss.
He's a loss. He cared about his principles enough to resign, an act which apart from causing him significant political difficuties also cost him a lot in monetary terms, tens of thousands per year. Whether you agree with his politics or not (and since he was a thoughtful man, tory or trot alike could find something in his views) his parting is another nail in the independence of what was once a proud tradition: a parliament that could speak its mind.
That is a shock!
Never agreed with his political views, but he was a man of principle - and we seem to be lacking these guys today.
And he was only 59!
Makes you think your own lifestyle.
It is a sad day for politics ....we need more voices which question the government and less yes men/women politicians...at least he stood by his principles
whether in the public eye or not it is always a sad tragedy when life is lost so young, i have recently lost someone very close who was the same age so i know what pain his family will be going through - my thoughts are with them.
all I can say I'm afraid :!:
RIP
Can't say I really knew that much about the man but 59 is a very young age to die .... I enjoyed the Spitting Image caricuture of him though ...... the garden gnome sketch is hilarious (which he himself thought was very comical) ... RIP.
RIP
I was shocked to hear about Robin cook dying. Let him now rest in peace. I only found out when I got home late last night.
The conspiracy theorist in me smells something fishy. was he alone when he died?
very convenient for certain people that this popular thorn in the side of some folks is now out of the way
A man who stuck by his principles, a rarity in politics these days.
May he rest in peace.
