Isn't it odd that to me it seems the only business bucking the trend of getting things there faster quicker earlier is the Royal Mail. For crying out loud, it is quite usual nowadays for us to receive our post after 4pm, and never do wew receive it before midday.
I know its not the nice postie woman she's OK and can only do what she can do. Nowadays if we miss a small package we get a little thingy through the door saying pick it up at the depot. Fine the depot is 4 miles away and closes for anyone collecting parcels at 1pm. Handy eh? I don't think so.
As A child i always remember waking up to the post. That was my job in the morning together with bringing in the milk from the doorstep I guess that was around 7pm.
It's probably got a lot to do with the fact that we only now have one post a day and so they have much more to sort in the morning and in turn they bring it out later.
It is a pain though when you are waiting for something and it comes so late.
I once had my post at 7o'clock on a saturday evening

your sorting office closes at 1pm lucky Lostie, ours shuts at and opens at , who makes up these hours for godsake, most people are at work during these hours hence thats how they missed the post in the first bloody place...
on a couple of occasions have been a few minutes late for work because been queueing at the sorting office because I work 8-1pm, and if you ask for it to be delivered again there is the very good chance you will be out again lol....
right i am going to stop my rant as you will never stop me lol xx
My post is never before 3pm unless its a saturday when it comes before 8am dunno dont get that theory - bit mad innit rolleyes
But i am lucky enough to live 5 minutes walk from the depot and is close to one of my sons schools
My mother has to drive 22 mile if she misses a parcel confused
Also, there are no Sunday collections anymore. mad
i remember my postie saying something to me earlier in the year that the men in the big offices have changed the rules on the hours they are allowed to work and they are not allowed to start before a certain time anymore!
koo xx

A very good friend of mine is a postie. In the "good old days", the postmen (and women before the pc brigade jump on me) were allowed to go home once they had delivered their last letter. Now, once they have finished they have to return to the sorting office for additional duties.
The unions have therefore suggested that the postmen take their time on their rounds and take up their full shift. This way any additional duties are then carried out by more workers.
Saturday, once the round is done, they can go home as there is no delivery on a Sunday.
I can't guarantee that this is the situation nationwide, but it certainly explains whats going on in Midsville.

its true, posties would sometimes start upto an hour earlier that they were suppose to,also work through meal breaks just to finish earlier...management decided to use this against the postman by putting more on them to deliver, taking them upto their finishing it was decided not to give Royal Mail any of your own time and just work the hours you were suppose to,coming in on time, taking your meal breaks and not using your cars to deliver mail.
