There are lamps you can get which mimic the effect of the sun which are meant to be helpful

Concentrate on the things that make winter so lovely - home cooked casseroles, eating more chocolates, log fires, cosying up on the sofa with rain pounding on the windows, long walks in the rain, the amazing speed of the clouds moving on a stormy day.
I guess for you working (as in paid for it) folk this makes it harder going to and from work in the dark, I do remember that, but try where possible to enjoy the benefits of winter, we've had some beautiful sunny days recently (down south anyway)

There's this poem I remember from my school days. It's called November but I think it should be renamed January
November
by Thomas Hood
No sun--no moon!
No morn--no noon!
No dawn--no dusk--no proper time of day--
No sky--no earthly view--
No distance looking blue--
No road--no street--
No "t'other side the way"--
No end to any Row--
No indications where the Crescents go--
No top to any steeple--
No recognitions of familiar people--
No courtesies for showing 'em--
No knowing 'em!
No mail--no post--
No news from any foreign coast--
No park--no ring--no afternoon gentility--
No company--no nobility--
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member--
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds,
November!

Know it may not be much help, but for a laugh please look at the thread titled "Is Dammie moonlighting?". I was crying with laughter.

Taking St John`s Wort can help lift your serotonin levels and try to get out on your lunch break so that you get some fresh air and bright light, that`ll help you too.
The lamps mentioned above do really help when there`s a lack of sunlight.
Also, Bach flower remedies can help. I find the Mustard remedy helps lift my spirit and makes me feel less down. You just add a few drops to water.
Hope you feel better soon.
winter is the time for the earth to take her rest ready to come back bursting with new life in the spring.
its time for snuggling up in front of fire, hiding under the duvet and not wanting to get up, the frost biting at your face, wind and rain whipping around you, all the elements reminding us they are there.
i like the winter, i like all the seasons for completely different reasons
i think january has a lot to answer for mainly because its after xmas, the high is over, the bills are in, everyone is skint

Better than sunbeds which are really very bad for you are Daylight or Craft bulbs.
They are blue in colour and give off a nice, very clean light rather than the yellowish light of incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.
Replace the bulbs in your bedroom, bathroom, lounge and kitchen with these bulbs - they really do work.
You can get them from B "und" Q and other lighting emporiums.
all of the above help. But we moved from the south east up to yorkshire 20 years ago and have not suffered it since !
Its reet grand up ere !

A long time ago I was in Iceland, never had a SAD day.
Never had time, up before dawn, she always sleeps late. Out into the cold, bath in the hot pools. It's cold when you get out! Busy all day then make camp by head lights.
Keep active, I think it helps. Last year when I was forced to do a lot less, I was just not myself.
Oddly this is a better day.
The wind is howling round our office block. Small trees are being uprooted and blown across the road and in my opinion its great. Why? Real weather not some bleak grey day.
The sun is out,
the sky is blue
Hooray
