I have just been listening to a whole list of music and thought……….
What in people's own opinions are the saddest songs ever made, and I don't mean 'Cheeky Girls' sad, I mean 'poignant' sad.
In my opinion ………….
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
Everybody Hurts - REM
Dance with my father - Luther Vandross
The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics
are very sad, especialy when it's relevant to you. Anyone else?
I am sure I have got some, but cannot think of any at the moment.....
Back to this later if I remember!!
Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls (From City of Angels)
Gorecki - Lamb (was used in a Torchwood episode but is a hell of a song in its own right)
Definatly REM - Everybody hurts, that gets me everytime
Snow Patrols Chasing Cars isnt particularly sad but it has beautiful lyrics which always make me
Theres also a few songs from West Side Story that are very emotional, my favourite being Somewhere -thats a very moving song.
I think i go for the way things are sung rather than lyrics, if i can feel emotion in a song it gets me daughter and her friends are performing Love Shine A Light using a soloist then the whole group joining in and that makes me goosepimply everytime.
Maybe im just a soppy sod !!!!!! redface
Eric Clapton - tears in heaven.
Janelle - Amazing.
Thats all I can think of at the mo.
Only 1 I can think of just now is
Tom Jones " the green, green grass of home"
when you sit and listen really brings a tear to the eye
Sam x
If tomorrow never comes - Ronan Keating's version.
whats this then grumpy you got a soft side after all lolol

Dance with my Father-Luther Vandross
Time to say goodbye-Katherine Jenkins
Edited to add
Mike and the Mechanics-Living Years
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans? is a bit of an emotive one for me.
Adagio for strings - Barber

:upset:
'To Where You Are' by Josh Groban. I heard it about 2 weeks after my Dad passed away and the words just fitted for me.

There are loads and loads
I cry when I listen to 'wires' by Athlete and I cry when I listen to 'Changes' by ozzy and kelly.

I never listen to lyrics, but the music itself can make me teary eyed.
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
(if I'm in the right frame of Mind)
Mo Foster - Jaco
(it's all about a depressive bass player and Mo's hit the mood and the feelings exactly right).
And for the track I will always curse Live Aid for as I cannot listen to it any more without blubbering
Cars - Drive

Me too... cos it's so frigging bad compared to the original rolleyes
Luther Vandross - Dance with my father....I defy anyone who has lost their dad, that listens to that, not to end up blubbing.....and if you havent heard it, find it and listen to it....you will get goosebumps when you hear it.
Everbody Hurts - REM
Without you - Nilson
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler version
"The Parting Glass" by the Wailing Jennys. A 3piece female Canadian folk band. They sing it A Cappella. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. Doesn't last very long. Just 2 verses.
Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing
Puff Daddy, Faith Evans - I'll Be Missing You
Johnny Cash - Thing called Love
John Denver - You Fill up My Senses
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

And my Fave of all time Sarah Mclachlan - Angel, reminds me of a best friend, and also a close cousin of mine whom, one, had a fatal car crash and the other got stabbed to death by her ex bf..........rest in peace to both xxx
How am I supposed to live without you? - Michael Bolton
Nothing compares - Sinead O'Connor

Shrek, your fault, can you stretch them lovely arms down this far, after reading this thread? big well ups this side of the monitor

Right this moment, (after an afternoon beer festivaling (bluddy brill time by the way (20 mins trying to type this good cos a tad tiddly (hic))) it's still The Verve and my dear wonderful cousin....
I know I'll see her face again :karaoke:
The song I chose ( Josh Groban To Where You Are ) is not to be confused for You Raise Me Up ( last heard being murdered my Westlife evil ) so I've found the lyrics
Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You're still an inspiration
Can it be (?)
That you are mine
Forever love
And you are watching over me from up above
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile to know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen
As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday
'Cause you are mine
Forever love
Watching me from up above
And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave
Fly me up
To where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile
To know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
I know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
:inlove:
