Heared a Johnny Cash song on vh1 the other day , dont know what it was called but it was brilliant , very sad . I think he was singing about his life and it must have been done not long before he died . Anyone know which one it is??
Youre right you guys about the Johnny Cash song! Its called Hurt and is a magnificent song and video both . The man revealed in all his vulnerability .

that`ll be it , yeh , it was a great video too . Not a big Johnny Cash fan but that song and video really moved me , must go get me a copy . Thanks for that .xx
Yeha thats right , Nine Inchers wrote a marvelous song , but he delivered it with such pathos . Almost as if it was written for him .

Hurt, Timi Yuro (Obscure, but well worth looking up)

Did the Manhattens not do a version of that in the 70s?
Yep, same song. Totally different style though smile
"The drugs dont work" Got some pretty harrowing memories attached for me.

Al Green - How can you mend this broken heart. And Al Green is a master at hitting the emotions.
There is a Nina Simone one that I can't remember the name of - that is a killer when you are sad.
See I do have a soft side - ssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

'My Man's Gone Now' ???
That might be it - does it make you feel like the end of the world? Even if before you listened to it you were sitting in a happy tree, eating happy berries and drinking happy-pop through a straw.
Yup It does - but Blues for Mama gets me going as well - guess I'm just a sucker for our Nina.
What about 'These are the days of our lives' Queen - geez!!
I really am a sentimental old soul but two that bring out the goosebumps are
For a friend - Jimmy Sommerville
Who knows where the time goes - Eva Cassidy
but there are loads of others for me.....
the Laird
lol
drugs dont work brings a tear to the eye when you discover its real meaning
There was a Wilson Phillips song in the 80's called "Hold On". It came out around the same time as someone close to me committed suicide - and the words of that song had so much meaning becuase I so wish he could've held on.
Crying now just thinking of it - so yip -sad song number 1 has to be Wilson Philips "Hold On"
I know this pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
Chorus:
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day

Queen? Nah stick to Nina and Al - though I do have a version of 'My funny valentine' which gets pretty emotional.

Ill get behind me rock!..........
One of the saddest songs for me, and I've only recently been able to listen to it without crying my heart out is "Have you ever needed someone so bad" by Def Leppard. The lyrics which get to me are:
"Have you ever needed someone so bad, yeah
Have you ever wanted someone
You just couldn't have
Did you ever try so hard
That your world just fell apart
Have you ever needed someone so bad
And you're the girl I gotta have
I gotta have you baby"
Without getting into to much detail, I lost a baby around the time I was listening to this song and years later a physchic told me the baby had been a girl *spooooky*
