hi A, thanks for the welcome. bit of a.e. housman eh?? did you know that when he wrote a shropshire lad he'd never set foot in the place. he actually lived in bromsgrove (poor lad)! he was inspired by the views though.
right that's enough, this forum has been far too intellectual so far, surely someone can lower the tone a bit??.
didn't expect to find anyone else from the county on here. thought shropshire was dead from the waist down.
cheers mate,
bed head
No indeed Bed Head - this little part of Shropshire is alive and kicking. Welcome to SH by the way! Have fun in the forum!
Sappho xxx
wow another salopian, and this time a girl!!!! this site is like waiting for the proverbial bus isn't it....
anyway, hi sappho, thanks for the welcome, nice to be here. who'd have thought it eh, sleepy old shropshire... not sure yet what you mean by alive and kicking but should be good finding out.
cheers,
bed head.
ps love the name by the way.
that country girl has witched your wishes,
all dressed up in her country clothes
and she hasn't got the sense
to hitch her rags above her ankles.
it's good stuff but i think i prefer Dr. Seuss to child of Zeus..
Hiya Bed Head,
I don't even know what a Salopian is! rolleyes
so you have been cast out into a new purely Salopian string.
Welcome, and have fun.

Kat
hi kat, i really wish i had a sexy, exciting, thought provoking answer, but as is usually the case......... i don't.
a salopian is anyone from the county of salop, which is the old name for shropshire.
now how dull was that??
bed head.
I'm just an adopted Salopian through the force of circumstance - unlike out own Artificer who is the real McCoy.
Love the county though and very happy here in the north of it. The county has a lot to offer its inhabitants and its visitors.

Nor did I, learn something new every day!
Thought it was some kind of skiing manouvre cos read sloppiness wrong in the thread title too! rolleyes redface
Hello there Bed Hed by the way biggrin
I'm even more confused now. Is McCoy another word for Salopian? How many words do you need?
Ah... I'm starting to see the cause of Sappho's love of language.
hi misschief, thanks for the welcome. friendly round here sn't it!
skiing manoeuvre???? could be that as well.
could it be a sexual manoeuvre??? giving a salopian?.... mmmm, i'll think about that.
bed head.
ps kit+kat, glad to hear you rate all the salopians you've met. of course i'm sure i'd ding the bell on the 'phwoar-ometer' wink but, unfortunately i'm far to modest to rate myself.
'phwoar-ometer'

Cheers Bed head - a new word for the Swinging Heaven dictionary!
Note to self - pass on to Will

Yes, I knew about Houseman's Worcestershire provenance: a county that can spawn both he and Elgar can't be at all bad! However, his writing is sublime.
Yes I'm one of the original Salopians: cupboards are full of rattling skeletons , all talking in our local dialect. As for intellectuals? Around here that means listening to Radio 4 when driving a tractor.
Salop (pronounced Solop)was indeed the old county name, although to most of us it was also the everyday word for the County town of Shrewsbury(pronounced as in the furry insectivore, suprisingly, not 'Shro'). Salop has spawned some famous individuals: Darwin, Clive of India, Admiral Benbow, 'Abraham Darby, 'Mad Jack' Mytton, Kynaston-a real highwayman, not a fantasy re-write as was Turpin-, Judge Jefferies, and my own personal hero, Wilfred Owen.
It's amazing how so many people have never heard of the place, visit, and never leave. I think it's because of the incredible diversity of the landscape-hills, forests, plains, Meres,Mosses- the unspoilt nature of much of it, and possibly the attractions of one or two folks that have moved here wink .
Anyway, enough of the tourism; welcome, my friend, hope to meet up one of these days. And to all Forum members: come and visit, I can arrange visas and guided tours...

Well bed head some of us did know that he had not set a foot in Shropshire, must be the fact that i am not a Salopian.
As for Shropshire being dead, it is quite obvious that you have not read many posting on this board
TS
hi A,
well that was how it happened for me too.
had never heard of the place, came for a look round and here i am.
will probably never leave cus of all the good things it has to offer, most of which you mentioned.
but i like it to be a well kept secret. don't want everyone muscling in on the place.
if anyone asks i say its just outside milton keynes.
sure we'll get together sometime. probably for a pint of shropshire lad!
(better clarify for any of our viewers outside shropshire, this is not a double entendre or kinky sex act, just a beer). so calm down.
bed head.
hello ts,
yeh i see what you mean. i've been catching up on some reading.....
bed head
Welcome bed head :welcome:
Salop (and yes, I did know that was the old name) is indeed a wonderful county, with some wonderful people there - native, immigrant and also those born there and now living elsewhere (which does not include me).
Good to have you on board. Hope you have fun!
Hi Bed Head
I agree with you unfortunately. Shrops is dead from the neck down, though we do still have our intellect intact.
Welcome to the forum, it'll be emotional for a while, then you get used to the caustic comments. (lol) lol

If anyone fancies some non intellectual fun, get in touch wink

Hi Kat
It is some one who is born in Shropshire.
It is like some one who is born in Hull is a Yorkshire man.

I am glad we do not move in the same circles otherwise I may feel the same way, instead of the way I do, as I have to keep turning couples down by telling them that I am not into females.
Maybe you should think about becoming a trannie or have a trannie partner.
TS
Hi Twisted Sister
I have thought about dressing, but I wouldn't look as good as Blue, and I've tried a trannie, but that didn't do anything for me sad ... still I'm always open to suggestions lol
hi yes im a true salopian to those that dont know we tried to drop the name salop as it has a french meaning to do with women of low moral standards pity as i cant find any around shrewsbury he he
