Scrumpings good. Then there's chumping, usually round about the same time of year, stealing railway sleepers and pallets and lumps o' wood yer bonfire rivals have amassed and kept hidden, so there's no attempts at a more serious offence of arson.
Not sure how it's spelled, but round these parts nicked = chorey, and then there's yer feral anarchist types who tend to tend to go about 'liberating' things from shop windows.

hehe this just reminded me of a bit in Red Dwarf the scifi program where one of the characters is worried about being retrospectively caught for scrumping in his youth. when the the other guy calms him down saying a few apples is nothing to worry about. He says "me and me mates used to go scrumping for cars".

As I understand it, the apples on my tree belong to me - regardless of where the branches hang. Certainly if the overhang is into a neighbour's garden that is true (it was on Watchdog or similar). It was all about overgrown hedges - if you cut the branches you have to hand them back to the owner. I assume the same would apply to fruit.
Put it this way - come and try helping yourself to the fruit growing in my garden. Let's see how the law stands on stringing 'scrumpers' up in the fruit tree by their ankles.

When i was a kid (a very long time ago I hasten to add)we would always hand the fruit back to it's rightful owner, once we'd finished eating the apples we'd always throw the cores back over!! :giggle:

Remember when companies were nationalised? That meant we owned them. Then the blue rinsed bitch came up with this idea that we should all profit from owning something we already owned and she sold us gas, electric, railways, water.......... And we paid money for what we already owned and some sad sods now complain that the service isn't any use any more. And some people are saying 'why don't we take back these companies into national ownership?' Except these companies are now owned by the french, the spanish, the germans............ it's not theft, it's the bloody tories.
