I have been given some Tranexamic Acid (Cyklokapron) Tablets to help with my periods.
The question is, have any of you tried them and know if they work?
Dawn dunno

I take them along with Mefanemic Acid, they haven't worked a huge amount for me but I do know a couple of others who have tried them and they have worked.
I'm no expert but if you have questions and want to chat pm me.

Mefenamic Acid is a painkiller/anti inflamatory.
I've tried loads of things and eventually had a Mirena fitted although I'm led to believe the injections do the same and it has reduced my bleeding a fair bit but has bought other problems sad
Hope they do work Dawn :therethere: (why don't we have a plain and simply hug emoticon???)

I have tried them and they didn't do a huge amount for me.......I had a period once for about two months continuously......
The thing that stopped my periods from going mad was The Pill......

Thanks for the hug, I'll save it until I need to take the tablets lol
The Doctor is not keen on giving fitting me with the Mirena although that would be the next step if the tablets don't do anything. I have enough problems with my body as it is and the coil or injects might cause other problems that I realy don't need sad
Dawn :silly:
I'm guessing you've already done the google thing, but say;
Does it work?
Yes. About 6 out of 10 women who take tranexamic acid get lighter periods.1 This drug works better than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and some treatments that affect the level of hormones in your body.
But, unlike NSAIDs, tranexamic acid will not relieve any pain you get with your periods.

Chris
Didn't work for me, Dawn. Got a Mirena fitted now and that doesn't stop periods for me, but I know of women who have Mirena and no periods. Ever. Not even spotting.
I have searched Chris but its just nice to talk to ladies that know where I'm coming from biggrin
Thanks freckledbird, only time will tell now I guess

Yep. I'm one of 'em. No cyclic moods, either. Am always a bitch. No, seriously, I had big probs from age 11. Not had a bleed for 7 years now. I'm lovin' it more than I'm lovin' MacDonalds.

OMW Calista have you been back to the doctor's? That doesn't sound normal confused
It took about 8 weeks for me to stop having one day on/one day off but I do have a regular, light cycle now.

Yep ... but I'm fed up now .. it's triggered my anaemia off again (although it's not really bad). I'm booked for an appt next week sometime.
Desperate for a shag too
Mine worked from day one. Not so much as a spot. But then again, my CNS is all wired up wrong, innit.
I take both tranexamic acid and mefanamic acid. The mefanamic helps a bit with the pain but not the heaviness, and the tranexamic does help with the flow but doesn't touch the pain at all. Apparently dentists give tranexamic acid to patients who bleed profusely after a tooth extraction and it thickens the blood so that it doesn't flow so easily.
I'm still having problems though and am booked to have a hysterectomy in the next few weeks. Drastic I know, but I'm a bit of an odd bod so they can't offer me any other help.
Don't know whether your doc has mentioned this Dawn, but you're only supposed to take the tranexamic acid for 3 days at a time. Which is fine for the first 3 days but then everything goes back to normal after that rolleyes Who'd be a woman eh? evil evil
I tried it and it didn't do a thing for me either, sorry hun.

I went through all of these plus a Merina coil and nothing worked. I had a hysterectomy two years ago and feel fantastic. It has made such a difference to my life. Just make sure you follow the instructions afterwards and take care for a few weeks. I kept my ovaries and so I blame all my grumpiness on PMT as I have no way of knowing when it actually is lol
hey dawn, yes i know what that stuff is, i was on it when the doctor couldnt stop my periods and i was bleeding for 3 weeks plus, sadly the didnt work for me until i was given a high enough dose and i was in hospital by that time, but hopefully if its just for generally heavy periods then they shud work as they are good stuff!! hope that helps xxxx the doctots now give me an injection every 3 months and i dont get periods as mine were too heavy and painful
~hugs for u babe~

I have heard that before Calista but because of my other problems the doctors seems very reluctant to let me try it anyway dunno

my mate uses them and she thinks they are fab! She was on a 10 days on 15 days off cycle... now its gone down to the normal once a month routine.... but not sure if they're for everyone... I went on the contraceptive injection, calmed my periods right down... jab in the bum once every three months.... lovely!
