I agree with you. I can not add to what you have said.
I think ANY word used in a derogatory way is not nice and the same can be said for words normally used as an insult can at times be taken as a joke. By that I mean calling someone a tart for instance can either be said in a nasty way or as we do in here sometimes, in a very lighthearted manner.

You (not you personally dammie) use olloqualisms for a penis to describe someone who's a bit of an idiot but the word cunt is reserved for the lowest of the low, I don't see how it can be both a good thing and such a bad thing.

I understand about using one word differently, but to me; that's one of the appeals of the English language.
But I wouldn't say that it's "reserved for the lowest of the low" - but the amount of venom that can be put into it's used is variable to point of light-heartedly taking the piss, to being something at the complete opposite end of the insult/threat scale.

I love the English language for exactly the same reason, its nuances are endless. I'm not saying I don't like the word cunt, it has great power, it's just that when some people use it they never quite allow it to lose the misoganystic slant. Most of the time it's not a word that's used that I like or dislike, it's who uses it and thier intination.
