Well you have already said that you don't want to ask outrigh but that's what I would do personally. You can explain your fears about appearing predatory and that it's ok for them to say no.

You could always pm them the link to this post. If they come back with something positive, all well and good, if not then re-pm and ask if they can give you any advice on how you tell this other cople who you have been talking to that you fancy them!
